You're out of luck with Bitcoin. You'll spend more on electricity than you'll earn in bitcoin, but you might be able to mine an alt-coin and make a profit, though I doubt it would be much. Look here to get an idea. http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrencyYou can buy hash power pretty cheaply (currently 0.0056 BTC per GHz). There is a link in my signature.

The problem with mining calculators is that they don't even try to account for bitcoin going up in fiat value.
Which, if someone is wanting to invest in Bitcoin, they should be assuming that Bitcoin will be going up in value. Otherwise, why invest in Bitcoin at all - whether it's mining or speculating.
If I buy a bitcoin for $500 and it goes up to $1000 in a year I've doubled my money (assuming I sell).
If I buy 178 GHz for $500 and bitcoin goes up to $1000 in a year I've got 1.0083 X $1000, so slightly better ROI. Plus, I still have 4 years of mining on my contract.
Obviously that's according to figures that may vary a lot, but saying mining isn't profitable is just an uneducated thing to say.

How did you get the figure 1.0083 btc?

How did you get the figure 1.0083 btc? I used the calculator linked above. http://mining-profit.com/

Difficulty update days: 13 Difficulty increase rate: 1.17
There is one small problem here. If difficulty updates every 13 days (takes 13 days to find 2016 blocks), difficulty will go up by slightly less than 8% each time only. If difficulty increase by ~17% each time, it should update slightly shorter than 12 days each time.

I was just going with what it seemed like things were doing lately. But I do seriously doubt that the difficulty will continue to rise an average of 17% per adjustment. Have you noticed how many mining hardware sellers are putting things on sale? I think the difficulty increases will be much smaller in 2-3 months unless the price of Bitcoin starts climbing significantly again.

True, I myself don't expect to see difficulty rising 17% each time forever as well. Anyway, have fun and good luck in your mining business.

As for Difficulty, I added Difficulty history tool to mining-profit.com calculator yesterday. As you can see, average difficulty rise is 11-22%, so 17% is pretty accurate value.

Yes you can, though you wont be making any profit with laptop If you will It'll take too long.. Special hardware required for "serious" mining.

Though it is also not easy to break even with ASICs.

Mining with laptop is waste, some times your laptop will burn due to high heat.
