Bitcoin is liberating the online poker world. I personally would use the word
Liberty in the name. I'm a poker player, live and online. Because I live in the United States I cannot play on big named sites like PokerStars. Bitcoin and poker are a match made in heaven. No government can prevent me from playing. I can deposit then start playing AND withdrawal all within minutes/hours as opposed to days/weeks. No western union (who in the past has taken ~5-15% of my withdrawals), No checks that take weeks to receive, no sketchy bank transfers from a site that delays payouts by weeks or more, no "one free withdrawal per month and the rest costs you $$$" bull sh*t.
Features you should absolutely require for your poker room if you want to make it big:
-
Hire good software developers. Security is extremely important. Software quality in general is extremely important. Do you need a software developer? I worked in Cyber Security for 3 years, and have done iOS applications for 2 years, computers software & hardware in general for 10+ years.
-
Proof of solvency. No poker sites are doing this right now. If you do this, you will attract a lot of attention and
potentially steal the show for Bitcoin Poker. Prove to users that their money is safe. The absolutely last thing you want to do is pull a
CoinBet.cc or a MtGox. Users are weary of these things, and though while many users desire to play poker is driven by addiction, most users are smart and won't put their money where it's not proven safe. If you can get loyal customers driven by both addiction AND intelligence, then your business will go through the roof.
-
Fast Withdrawal times. It doesn't need to be automated right away(think safety first), but it shouldn't take more than 12/24 hours to withdrawal bitcoin.
-
Support Data Mining by providing well formatted hand history files. Data Mining online poker is a good thing. The best poker players will never play on your site if you don't support data mining. Contact Holdem Manager & Poker Tracker if you're not sure where to begin. If I lived in a country where I could play on PokerStars, I would use Data Mining Software. And If I found a good Bitcoin site that didn't allow DataMining then I would NOT switch to that site just because I could use Bitcoin... But if that site DID allow Data Mining and did support the above mentioned software, then I'd switch in a heartbeat.
-
Consider accepting alternate currencies in the future, but do not operate as an exchange right away... That will just complicate things and you'll end up biting off more than you can chew (unless you just piggy back on an already existing exchange and plug into some API). Here's an example of how this can get complicated. Let's say 10 people deposit in BTC, and then all 10 people want to withdrawal in Dogecoin... how do you handle that? That's a problem you may not want to solve on day 1... Get the site up and running first, then cross that bridge later. But do architect the system with this in mind!
