Last week I added three bitcoin network nodes and the process was EASY! I just opened an account with weloveservers.net (WLS), added each server, and got redditor Morblius to set them up the nodes for me.

Did they block 8333 connections? Why LA server is dead?

We got problems with WLS guys. I've been requesting a change of servers for that bum LA node and this is the response I got:

Per our AUP, we do not allow mining, and this was made clear to you in our AUP which you agreed to before signing up for services with us.

Thanks,

Tell them you are not mining, just running a node. Explain that after the nodes are fully synced, they don't use much resources on the VPS.

No.

Looks like Morblius's explanation worked. They're going to migrate me to Dallas.

I think is officially. WeLoveServer seems that dont LoveBitcoinNodes Tongue. I have done one more clean install and a new fresh install of bitcoind without Morbias script. I have run bitcoind with

bitcoind --daemon

and after a while i was checking connections with

bitcoind getconnectioncount

everything goes fine untile the connection goes up to 9. After that point the connections crashed one more time.

Are you adding swap? The out of memory killer might be killing bitcoind if not

Here is the part of the script that adds vswap
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1M count=1024 ; mkswap /swapfile ; swapon /swapfile
echo "/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0" >> /etc/fstab

To check if the OOM killer is killing bitcoind:
Code:
dmesg | egrep -i -B100 'killed process'

It will look like this

I've just sponsored 2 nodes.

1st Node:
http://198.23.132.134/
Bandwidth: http://198.23.132.134/vnstat

2nd Node:
http://109.73.173.112/
http://109.73.173.112/vnstat/

Everything was paid to Morblias and he did the setup within an hour.

That was smooth and I enjoy the idea of participating to the Bitcoin project actively. If you could do the same, that'd be nice.

Guys, can you tell me if the nodes are affected by the new WLS policy ? Are they ok ?

yes, they are ok.  if asked, you need to explain that you're just running a node and not mining.  they're ok with that.

i just received an email confirming that they've transferred my dead node from LA to Dallas.  will let you know how that goes after i get it set up.

Thanks for contributing to the network! Looks like an easy setup. If I have some extra cash I might just set one up myself. Is there any way to see the amount of data or transactions the nodes relay including my own?

Blockchain.info can show you the transactions relayed by the node by searching for the IP: https://blockchain.info/ip-address/107.170.116.161

I also like to look at vnstat to see how much bandwidth they are using: http://107.170.116.161/vnstat/

Edit: that looks kind of weird on blockchain.info. shows that node hasn't relayed one since 6/4/2014. That doesn't seem right.

Yeah, I've had some jackass company shut down one of my servers for that too.
