So you're saying that NXT is the best coin? To be fair, it's the most promising one at the moment as far as I know. When the promised features are released (they will be soon), it will be at least one of the best. And Nxt is much more than a coin, that's why BCNext didn't use a coin in its name.

so with NXT, if i have a wallet with say 1000 NXT, how long does it take to 'forge' new coins and how much will i get in return?
is there a minimum of coins you have to hold?
can someone give me a quick summary please? if you dont 'mine' nxt but rather earn them just by running a wallet then i'll give it a go. I've never really read much into the whole proof of stake thing.

Don't expect to earn a lot by forging. Forging income, which is just the transfer fee of the blocks your account generates, is only comparable to bank interest, or even less since most of the blocks are empty at the moment (There will be more transfers when the features are released). The dev said the effective balance (the power you use to forge) is still in whole NXT, which means that you can forge with 1 nxt at the moment (though the chance is extremely low) but not with 0.1 nxt. You only need to open the wallet keeping your account unlock to forge. When the Account Leasing is enabled a few days later, you can also lease your forging power (without moving your NXT from your wallet) to a pool let the pool take care of the forging, then you don't even need run anything.

unfortuneate for you, nxt is not designed to earn big money while forging. forging is there to protect your own investments therefore securing the entire network. forging almost don't use any more electricity when run in the background so it is in your best interest to forge when you have a large stake. nxt is bigger than just a coin, it is a full platform ready to be built on top of. think of nxt as a mega mall/shopping centre and each nxt account that provides a service on top of the platform is a business inside that mall, when you forge you are turning on the security cams to safeguard your business. services are, multigateways, online games, company ipos, online gambling, messengers, digital goods even crypto coin based on nxt and much more. and its already happening. this is why nxt is considered a true first 2nd gen, this is why nxt is the future.

Some people in this forum have greatly mistaken the forging concept... They think that spending 100$ in NXT, with a average monthly cost in electricity of 0.1$ will report similar revenue than spending 20000$ in mining equipment for BTC with a monthly electricity cost of 500$....

There is no profit in forging unless somebody has more than 100,000 coins. Even then I think it takes more than that to start consistently forging blocks, and even then some of the have 0 fees. I forged for three weeks once after investing $1000, and finally forged a block for total fees of 0. I turned off the forging after that. Some people with even 100 coins might forge just to protect the network if they believe in it though.

I think I have seen enough, I also read some whitepapers. Name some coins you think more promising than Nxt. I am open enough to hear some different opinions if they are supported by valid arguments.

I think nxt definitely has the most promise and I found out about it just after the IPO. loved it from the word go. What I'm interested in right now is eMunie, skycoin, Ethereum and some other small coins like exo, qora and nem. Definitely a year for Bitcoin 2.0 with nxt leading the way.

YinCoin YangCoin seem promising. You should view coins from a technical perspective. I can't really find a good coin when it is hidden among hundreds of topics related to copycoins.
