AMD vs Intel re virtualization (virtualbox)

I have to buy a system specifically for virtualization anybody have recommendations? I've already narrowed down the hardware to all OpenBSD/GNUlinux compatible hardware except wondering if there's any significant difference between AMD64 vs Intel64. Googled info presents arguements from 10 years ago from various fanboys presenting zero evidence of said claims

How many operating systems do you want to run on the hardware?  If it's more than a couple, huge caches are the way to go.  Other than that, AMD usually wins in performance/watt, Intel usually is top dog for full-throttle performance.

I generally run

Host (debian)
2 OpenBSD instances to lock down internet facing applications
1 Debian instance to set up online stores/play around in.

So max 3. I also load up pirated XP sometimes simply to stream live sports flash not supported by FlashVideoReplacer or SOPcasts but would shut down the other guest o/s's. 90% of the time it would be two OpenBSD guest o/s I do almost everything in it

The real factor is your price range, am Intel system will perform better and waste less energy but it'll cost more.

From what you're describing 1155 should be ok with a i7 2600, many more system though and you want six cores which means paying for 2011 or using an and system(it's all what performance you want, and what you'll pay for)

I run a virtualbox server with four 12-core opterona (48 core total) and 256GB ram.
Most of the emulated systems are Win7 and Win2k8.

It totally rocks.

Only downside is the disk access: 6 SATA III raid edition drives configured in RAID 10 (on a Areca ARC-1882)  can't deliver data fast enough for all the emulated systems in some occasions.
