I'm deciding on what to order and would appreciate any suggestions or opinions:

Which laptop for work (I need 3, but 1 can be different, if it is a refurbished one that is that much better than the others)
Price 400-600
Screen size pref 15.6
Memory- pref over 500gb
ram - is 4gb to low?
os- 7 a plus, but dnt care
Feel free to throw in a desktop suggestion if you want, as I need one as well.

The Lenovo looks like to be the better option for me as long as your usage doesn't require a proper GPU, but anyway I can say that all of those are not a good option, I mean yeah sure 3 years ago or 4 they would have costeed 1k + but for me go with a 600$ laptop that have a i5 4xxx which is more powerfull than those and a better option

as for your questions :
4Gb is enough usually, I suggest 6gb to be really fine, but again ram is upgradeable and cheap so don't have a headache over this
OS 7 or 8.1 doesn't matter much but that shows that the configuration is quite old if it comes with 7

As of course like anyone would tell you at that cost you'd get a desktop 4x times as powerfull at least, desktop and laptop are for different use it all depends on you need I can trow a configuration of a desktop if you need so

Lenovo thinkpads have the best keyboard.
SSD's have the most performance.
I would choose the thinkpad.

Go for this one. I am using a Dell Inspiron 15R 15.6" for the last 3.5 years. Never had a single complaint, despite using it 12 hours+ every day!

Hmm... a Dell huh? I personally had one for 2 years, and it spoilt. However, the customer support staff was very helpful and offered me a covered repair. Not a bad experience.

all the dell, hp, etc brands are absolute trash. they take bids on their internal parts and select the cheapest manufacture.
this is why their systems tend to break or fail quickly.

if you dont "need" a laptop, dont go with one. they have around 1/3 - 1/4 the actual computing power of their desktop counterpart and with their undersized heatsinks they tend to scale back on power when you truly need it while being more expensive.

as for ram, 8gb is where you need to be. a 64bit os will perform much quicker than 32bit, and you do not want to run a 64bit os on 4gb of ram.
64bit os uses 2x the amount of ram for the same operations vs 32bit.
while you may not need all 8gb its better to have the headroom.

samsung is crap. Their products feel so plasticky and cheap. Dropped my lifebook 5 times, still working fine. Samsung? 1 time and the screen cracked.

Err, you should probably look at reviews, and look at sites like Notebook Check to help you. There they also do benchmark tests on laptops, durability, and things like that. And you should also see reviews on the company.

This is what I thought exactly. I'd pick the one with SSD. You can always buy some external disk to store your stuff and carry it around in your laptop bag.

I would stay away from the acer. Nothing against them, but I heard their technical assistance is really bad. On your list I would go for the first one because of the ssd.

lenovo works great among these all hp is ok too and very stylish however i dont like dell because i have been a dell user before and its only end up with the same problem their lcd is not good at all and you also need to always put a cooling fan to prevent the heat which is suck

I repeat what I said before, if you are limited to the list the lenovo is the better choice, but neither of those is a good choice anyway, too outdated for the price you are paying for them for 600$ you'll be able to buy a laptop with new generation hardware ( a 4th generation intel i5 cpu and probably a 720M GT or equivalent, or at least an HD4600 graphics

The Thinkpad has the best build and the fastest hard drive.  The processors are all similar in speed.

It depends on what you're looking for.  If you go for the ThinkPad Just make sure you can get by with only 60GB so of storage space.  A 128GB SSD will come with <100GB free and if you fill the SSD all the way up it will be slower than an HDD.
