I know you might have differing opinions on reddit or redditors, but reddit is a very large site with a lot of very technically and politically savvy visitors. Redditors' values are in-line with bitcoin's -- SOPA, the occupy movement, banks, etc.. I'm convinced the average redditor would be
very interested in bitcoin if they knew what it was.
I propose we set out a goal to make the front-page of major reddits. The ones we should aim for are r/TodayILearned, r/politics, r/trees, r/IamA, and r/technology. These sub-reddits often make the "all" category, and will be viewable to anyone logged into the site or not.
- Topics in TIL could link to bitcoin related sites and mention de-regulated currency, SOPA, or any other bitcoin buzz-words.
- Topics in IamA could be along the lines of, "I was hacked and lost $25,000 in bitcoins, ask me anything," or, "I make a living off of bitcoins. Ask me (almost) anything." These are just examples.
- Topics in trees could link to that Gawker article or mention the Silk Road
These are some examples, and on the small-scale could introduce a few more people to bitcoin. On the large-scale, if one of the bitcoin related links went "viral" it would get tremendous exposure. It often depends on the title of the link. What do you guys think?
If you post your reddit link in this thread, I will up-vote it to give it a better chance.
