RAmen to that! Could not agree more!

Agreed here as well 1.6 is my fav.

Shit I wish that I had... though I picked up Source a few years back on sale for $5 so maybe they will run it again... then again, mayhaps if you posted a donation address for porting to source I'm sure folks would throw down

I'm pretty sure I own one or more copies of source, I just can't figure out what the steam info for them is. That's why I planned to just pick it up once on sale, CS:GO as well as it is very high population at the moment.

I can post up a donation address but what about server fees and coins to cover the bots until players populate the server? All bonuses can be disabled making it a zero sum game for the server itself, giving bots 0 balances. A server will run ~$28USD/month. So far I am just covering these costs.

If I open a CS:S and or CS:GO server I would need another server to run them from, I am out of resources. It would be a couple of weeks work for me to get it going in source, I estimate. I will need to start from scratch, but I assume with the similarities between engines it is possible.

I'm not sure which way to go with other games. I see a demand for a survival type game with a coin wallet. I'd personally like a really nice website for the CS 1.6 game as it is. Better display of player stats, ladders, tournaments with prizes, video stream of the game in progress, ability to create a private match with members of the site, match creator or each party agreeing to join the match via the site and paying some coins in. Private password protected server being automatically spun up in the cloud just for their match. It would be nifty Wink How many thousands of dollars does that cost, gweedo? I think I could do it all but I am fairly lazy and it sounds like a ton of work.

Man I hear ya.

Ok, so I've got to find me a copy of 1.6 I can live with that.

Let me ask you this, how would you label your project? Is this still beta or a launchable project?

Could you make it play to pay? I would think most folks who would want to play 1.6 are already in the mindset of maybe helping share the costs (I know I've payed my fair share of server costs over the years) and might be worth pursuing.

This post sums up why all this bullshit is a scam
Read It. Hate It. Change the facts that it represents.

It would be trivial to replace BLC with any other crypto which has the same/similar Bitcoin RPC interface which almost all coins that I know of use. I've questioned what BTC would be like, maybe a satoshi per kill or similar. CS 1.6 itself does not want to play nicely with floating point numbers for the wallet. This could be resolved by making 1 game coin == 1 satoshi or similar.

The CS 1.6 as is I would label a launchable project. It has been launched and runs 24/7 for a few now. I have fixed a variety of bugs and expect more to surface. The server has taken in and paid out hundreds of BLC.

Pay to play? I believe that could be setup. As is someone could come in and earn coins without depositing any, they could earn coins from those who have deposited coins and from the server itself. My intention here was not just to provide players for the server but to try and find a better solution to current game currency practices. In some games people who live in economically depressed areas play, bot, and exploit games so that they can trade the earned game currency for their real world needs. In this CS mod such a person could play professionally and earn a living, assuming those players can be offset by players in more affluent locations who don't mind losing $5 or equivalent here or there in return for the game experience.

I will definitely keep thinking about it and trying to come up with ideas. There are so many ways to potentially go with it. Currently CS servers are rented and run mostly by groups for fun, not profit. There are several networks of servers run by people who offer in game perks in exchange for money, some of them do quite well. If the server needs to turn a  profit in order to pay a hosting bill or otherwise the cost of guns and equipment could be set accordingly. Currently guns and various equipment costs 1 BLC (around 0.012 USD) in game. When players die they drop the weapon they were carrying, so buying a weapon is not mandatory you could pick one up off the ground. If the server has some other purpose and doesn't need to turn a profit itself that opens up new options. All guns and equipment could be free, the only coins changing hands from bonuses and combat.

This could be turned into a Pay to Win game within a few minutes...by adding health packs for sale. As is the gun and equipment menu can be opened at any time during the round. A simple bind later and a player with a fat wallet could hit a key to buy and use a healthpack, "healing" instantly.

This is a really smart idea, plans on doing this with other games?

No plans currently. People have asked me to do a similar setup with a person vs environment style game, rather than this person vs person setup in CS.

Did you have anything specific in mind?

Unrelated note: You can now see your withdrawal and deposit history in game via the blc_listwit and blc_listdep commands.

I know 7 days to die is popular but I don't think it would be possible in Alpha?
Minecraft?

I am interested in trying out this CS mod once i get a copy of it. thank you ignatius for this awesome community to the blakecoin community Smiley anyways, if you are open to suggestions for other games to mod like this, I have a few.

Unreal Tournament (I'm thinking either the original 1999 version or UT3)
Neverwinter Nights (tons of mods and tools available for that one)
Nexuiz (great open source FPS based originally on Quake engine)
Minetest (open source game like minecraft)
Cube/Cube2 (a quality open source FPS)

the first two are my fav games of all time, but i have not tried the Minetest it just looked interesting. I think it is a great that you are footing the bill for servers but i dont see why you should have to. should be some way to at least partially cover your costs by charging a small entrance fee to the server, or preferably in a less obvious way. for example, some items purchased in game are not reusable, or like in casinos where players win often but over all the house always comes out on top by a percentage that is statistically predictable.

Where are you located? The server is in Atlanta Georgia USA. My ping to the server is very low (30ms) but geographical location has a lot to do with it.

Edit: Did you try adjusting your rates as described in the first post?

I'm in UK Sad

Also I'm interested in hosting a UK based server using another kind of coin.

Bitcoin or Litecoin would be better but I understand it's easier to work with integers.
Maybe Primecoins?

Have you got plans to take this concept further?
I'm willing to invest in you Smiley

There is not much we could do to lower your ping given the distance between you and the server:(

Using Bitcoin or Litecoin would make the game more accessible to players I believe, it's easier to acquire those coins than most altcoins. As I mentioned earlier in the thread I think Bitcoin and other coins would be usable, it would just be necessary to make one in game coin equal to 1 satoshi or similar. Obviously that is not the cleanest approach but it could work.

I have several ideas for what I would like to see done to improve the game as it is, though none of them are related to the actual game play itself. The response to the game has been extremely positive however there are not enough active players to justify putting in the hours needed to create a proper website and etc. If the server were full of players most of the time I would certainly launch more servers in new locations and tackle other related improvements. It's a bit wrong of me to expect such a player base to form without me putting any money into advertising.

I tried to setup a computer that would stream the server live to twitch.tv and similar sites. I thought this would bring in new players and act as advertisement. The spare hardware I have available was unable to handle running the game and streaming it in HD at the same time.

There is a very large, very competitive CS player base which regularly plays for money. I believe if they were made aware of this game they would quickly join in to make some coin.

If you would like a server setup in the UK with a different coin I am sure we can work something out, pm me with details.

@PeaMine @bzyzny Thank you for the suggestions. I am definitely open to suggestions, the limiting factor for me is time and money. I haven't come up with a fun way to monetize minecraft yet. I have gotten several requests for a custom Team Fortress 2 server which allows players to buy various in game perks with coins. Nexuiz and Minetest are new to me, I will have to check them out.

Is anyone else old enough to remember video arcades? Wouldn't it be neat if things went full circle and we soon found ourselves pumping "coins" into games again:)

Another thank you to the server "regulars". There are a handful of players who play the game almost daily.

How about making a new coin specifically for this system.. where the players are actually human miners who earn coins by playing on the server?
Would be great to play on such servers where you are actually getting something to play rather than just wasting your time. Tongue I myself would invest some money and buy a server if you can pull something off like this, I can get the coin developed as well.

It's definitely possible to make a coin just for this game, but I looked at that as hurting more than helping. For any of the current or future altcoins to gain traction there would need to be a demand for them. The odds of one game, any game, being popular enough to sustain a coin seem very low to me. To me it seems it would be better to have thousands of games which use the same coin. This would remove the need to make one game which outperforms 99.99% of other games in terms of popularity. It's a fairly difficult situation, since there is no way everyone would agree on one coin and work together, and it is improbable I would create the next WoW.

That said, what if the only way to mine the coin was by playing the game? That could potentially remove the cryptocurrency aspect of all this...I doubt it is any more possible to create a coin which can only be mined in a game than it is possible to create a coin which could *never* be asic mined. You could have a large premine and use that coin to pay the players in the game, but that is not a very popular option. You could have players cpu or gpu mine coins while they play, but I don't think that would work out long term, if the coin were to be popular at all mining farms of gpus, fpgas, and asics would make those players mining almost worthless.

Any thoughts on these issues, Evilish?

I could claim the current players on my server are "mining" coins, and just send them coins acquired via other means. How would one do that in a legitimate way though?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, you should probably check out the Blakecoin thread. The developer of BLC is developing an FPS and an MMO which will use BLC, and be mined by players in the games. I have no idea how he plans to implement that, but I'm definitely long BLC.

Or *** it. Just create a brand new coin called COUNTER-STRIKE COIN and make it Blake based!! sick.. let's do that!!

I considered a CS coin. I would not be able to have it merge mined in the Blake chain unfortunately, there is a rule against copyrighted coins.
