So this is a silly question, but I'm running an i3 @ 2.27 GHz, and there is no dedicated graphics card... I have an old laptop however with this in it, and am thinking abou trying to put it in my new one: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 4500MI was wondering how I could figure out if it supports anything like OpenCL or CUDA, and whether it would really help with my speed of generating hashes at all. Even if it's minimal (1 extra Mhash/s)? I only have about 4.5-5.5 right now... EDIT: As a side note, I know my CPU mining is essentially worthless. I'm currently pool mining with deepbit.net, and while it hardly generates anything at all, it is some BTC, and I don't need to worry about electricity when I feed off my school's. |

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable. I never believe them. If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins. I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion. Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice. Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

that doesnt make any sense. All igp in intels Sandy bridge cpus can do openCL i think the arrandale can do it as well but not sure

I will be sure to try it out. If nothing else, it will at least be a graphics card for other uses. I'll let you know whether it's compatible and what kind of hashrates I get.

I've pushed my 8600GT which is 4 years old to 7.3 Mh/s and currently mining 1BTC a week @casascius If you think running old hardware is a waste I gladly accept donations to buy better hardware Hopefully it costs you less than six tenths of a cent per hour to run, otherwise you are just breaking even on the power. I actually have an 8600GT myself - it'd probably cost me about 2 cents per hour to leave it mining, or $3.36 a week. I suppose it's possible you get your power for free, maybe someone else pays for it. If someone else pays for your power, you aren't producing anything... could be considered a conquest in petty microtheft, rather than production, as you are simply gaining at the direct expense of someone else, much the same if you were swiping loose change off their dresser or the bottom of their purse. |
