Quote
Eyjolfur Gudmundsson is the in-house economist at CCP Games, and part of his job is keeping Eve Online and its multiple currencies running smoothly. Eve Online and Dust 514 incorporate a series of virtual currencies, such as ISK, Auram and Plex, that are all interconnected and in some cases can be purchased, or sold for, actual currency. The value of PLEX, which is redeemed for one month of game time in Eve Online, is relatively stable. CCP has experimented with allowing players to purchase video cards with PLEX.

wtf is the point of asking poeple who's understanding of bitcoin is limited to "digital money" what they think about bitcoin???

this guy needs to do some reading & learning...

He's quite clearly very ignorant on the whole subject:

Quote
"I find it very interesting that people that are behind the cryptocurrencies, they seem to distrust governments. So they create a system that is supposed to be closed, just a fixed amount of money, and nobody can create fiat monies, no bankers will benefit from it. And yet, they don’t tell you who is behind it, and they’re telling you the code is secure," he told Polygon.

"I look at them say, ‘Don’t trust the governments,’ but they expect us to trust something because it’s code somebody wrote I don’t know who is. And there’s a notion of people who did this originally, who are sitting on millions and millions of bitcoins and will cash out at some point," Dr. Gudmundsson continued.

"I openly talk to people about that and specifically with people that are very enthusiastic about this being the next big wave, and I just ask, can you prove to me that this is not a scam? And they say yeah because the code is safe," he said.

"And I say, OK are you absolutely sure that this code can’t be changed, because I don’t know the code and I don’t know the technology behind the code, but I have to trust it to use it so how are they going to convince people all over the world that this is trustworthy if there is no government behind it?"

He does not have to understand the code, he could download the paper and study it... at least, you'd expect a Dr would do some research before talking.

He could download the code, examine it himself, compile and verify the hash. I realize that examining the code line-by-line isn't trivial, but it's been open source from the start and no one has found a hidden function like DO "On May 5, 2014, Satoshi gets all the bitcoins." Lol

Eve is a training ground for online scammers. Plex is just as volatile as Bitcoin and CCP can control supply. Who is scamming whom?

Just seeing the title and skimming through I can tell this person is stupid, did you know that EVE Online had a glitch once in its game and a clan blatantly abused it until they were finally stopped? What had happened was they found they were glitching some kind of item and were selling it off constantly to grow their empire and maintain a monopoly. EVE Online is rife with other problems as well, the balance is piss poor ( and no EVE fanbois are going to tell me it isn't ) the currency ISK is a joke because it's hyper inflationary and their public crafting is completely broken because they decided to have a limited number of slots for the stations and the reason the game is so punishing towards newbies isn't because of the difficulty of it as they would have you believe. It's all the previously listed problems plus things like the fact that in order to gain skills you have to have the account subscribed and wait real time which means that people need to dedicate years if they want to progress to better ships, small groups are totally non-existent or subsidiaries of the massive alliances in the game because of the above mentioned problems.

They had one chance, one chance to redeem themselves with Dust 514 which is a shooter and they could have made it for the PC alongside EVE Online to give people who didn't like the grind something else to do but because they decided to act like selfish arrogant cunts, they made the game free to play so they could sell crappy items and on top of that had the balls to make it an exclusive for the PS4! They argue that PC players already have EVE Online but that's a load of bullshit, Dust 514 and EVE Online are completely different games just set in the same game universe. There was absolutely nothing stopping them from just including the Dust 514 in the current subscription price or raising the subscription price to cover the cost and put it on PC but I suspect they probably made some kind of deal or pay off with Sony.

Anyway, you can bet that EVE fanbois will be rushing to troll me now that I've pointed out the flaws in the game and these are only some of the bigger ones that I've spotted in it but yeah, anyone who believes cryptocurrencies are a scam really know nothing and haven't bothered researching it properly.

To be fair, CCP did port Dust 514 to XBOX, but M$ dropped the ball. They are planning to port it to the PC as well as expand the game. The game itself is fine and as balanced as a highly complex system can be. They are simply overstepping their authority by opining on Bitcoin.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.
