Voting with the blockchain has been discussed before, but this is the first use case I heard about. Hopefully it catches on on a bigger scale.

It just says it's very difficult to change. Same as we are already used to with bitcoin.

51% is relative. There is nothing stopping them from using the bitcoin network itself for this. Just set up a wallet for each candidate and send a satoshi or whatever as your vote. In the event that an actual politi-coin system is made just for voting purposes it will be just as easy to check network statistics as it already is with bitcoin. Also, any fraud will be immediately detectable. Just check if your vote is still where you originally put it.
