I played at freebitco.in for a while but didn't win anything much yet, Is there any better way to get some satoshis for beginners?

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Also, the faucet is not worth it unless you have A LOT of time on your hands...

Even if you have a lot of time, you could have spent it on other more meaningful / more profitable stuff.

So I take it you have to sit in front of the PC for hours for the free rolls??

Just kidding. I do not really see how the five seconds it costs to react to an alarm on a smartphone and entering a captcha is an utter waste of time. Free money is free money. And free money that according to the yay sayers will reach astronomic heights in value one day is even more free money.

And as far as the OP goes: You should look up the written law about gambling in your country and see the defininition of what is considered gambling and thus illegal and then see if that defintion fits on what happens on freebitco.in.
