Hello Bitcoin community, i just started to get into the whole bitcoin thing and i think im ready to get a coin. My question to you guy is what's the fastest, cheapest, safest, and most reliable site to buy a coin from?  I was also going to see what you guys thought about mining, if it would be a smarter investment to invest $600 into coins or a mining setup? Thanks Smiley

I'd suggest looking into the following for purchasing bitcoins depending on your exact location and needs:

localbitcoins.com (most useful in large metropolitain areas)
https://bitsimple.com/
coinbase

Fastest way to buy bitcoin should be via localbitcoins (the whole trade could be completed in 10 minutes if the traders are online), while the cheapest, safest way should be via Coinbase (since you are in US)

As it was said: the fastets and safest way to get bitcoin is to buy it, but the cheapest is to mine it..But it depends on time and your luck on how soon you would mine one.  Wink

I don't think it is right.
You can hardly find any mining equipment that can give you profits now (ie. You spend money on ASICs and that will give you less bitcoin than directly buying bitcoin now).

Mining is the most expensive way.  Hardware costs, overhead, maintenance, declining profits for each difficulty jump, and montlhy electrical costs vs just buying Bitcoin on an exchange.

Don't mine, invest in some alt-coin. Do a little research, I heard that darkcoin is a good choise now.

Use coinbase if you don't mind verifying your ID. Use localbitcoins if you don't want to verify ID or you want to get bitcoin fast.

I was also going to see what you guys thought about mining, if it would be a smarter investment to invest $600 into coins or a mining setup?

Mining won't get you rich. Indeed, you will very very likely just get a loss.

Mine alt coins and convert them. Also multi pool that does this for you can be an option.

I agree with this advice.... buy directlly BTC, don't try to mine.

Buying is the fastest.

Alternatively, if you just want to try the system, you can get some small amounts to toy around with using say faucets (will take you a week, and a total of 4-5 minutes to get 0.0001 BTC).

Fastest and most flexible method to buy bitcoins is: VirWox. But it is not the cheapest. You can use your credit card, paypal account or a lot of other ewallets and vouchers in order to get BTC. Also, you can sell them there and take fiat out on your accounts.
