I see there are many providers now accepting Bitcoins. But all of them has very stupid rules saying that torrents are not allowed and copyrighted material not allowed... I think it is bulls****. I'm a member of the Pirate Party and I believe that non-commercial file-sharing should be allowed. I think service providers that have such limitations are kissing asses of copyrigh-mafia and supporting idiotic laws.
So I'm asking if anyone knows a VPS-provider that does allow torrents and so called "pirated" content. After all it is my decision what I put on my server, the provider just gives me a place for that.

VPS providers would rather not get their entire server shut down and/or taken from the datacenter due to a user's need to steal movies.
Your best bet is looking for a VPS in countries which are less strict about copyright laws. Netherlands tends to be where most Seedboxes run.

I share your views on copyright law, but I do not share your views on whether a VPS provider should openly go against the law. Whether or not we agree, copyright law is still in effect and hosting providers should abide by it to protect themselves from liability, not put themselves at risk of liability. |

I can recommend www.mullvad.net . Don't think they have any rules against downloading. From their faq: How do you protect against IPRED? What if a court orders you to divulge sensitive user information? We don't collect or store such information. There is nothing to divulge. Edit: Sorry, they use VPN |

I am also a member of the Pirate Party, who tries to follow the letter of the law (which means most my file sharing is with permission from the copyright holder). I also find the restrictions on the Bittorrent protocol annoying. Incidentally, many webhosting companies prohibit IRC servers as well.
I also hate the restrictions on sharing copyrighted material, but for another reason: Most creative works automatically fall under copyright. It should be permissible to share copyrighted materials with permission (a license) from the copryright holder. Sometimes they will specify "commercial copyrighted work", but that will still exclude most GNU/Linux distributions, despite the free (as in freedom) license.
The fact that the Internet is evolving to a point where most users are passive "consumers" concerns me greatly. Most home Internet connections (at least in North America), prohibit hosting servers (or sharing with your neighbours). That was why I was looking at webhosting for my personal website in the first place. But then, when you shop for webhosting services, you learn that they are often just as or more restrictive than ISPs.
TL;DR I joined the Pirate Party for the same reason, even though I don't "Pirate."
Edit: to answer your question: have you considered commercial Internet Access? It is not cheap, but then, 1 hour of lawyer time won't kill their profitability for the year.

I think the most important reason is bandwidth, they don't want 24/7 bandwidth hogs, and torrent users usually fall in that category. VPN are meant to use for web browsing and occasional file download.
A VPN provider that allow torrenting, would either charge a much higher fee, or go out of business very soon.

VPN =/= VPS And btw, mullvad.net allows everything, there's no transfer limits, and it's only $5/month. And ou can pay with Bitcoins of course. I can't imagine better service. |
