http://bitcoinmedia.com/megaupload-conspiracy/

< MC1984> charges of distributing child prn and terrorist materials are in the megaupload charges apparantly
< MC1984> 76 page indictment
< MC1984> they just throw cp and terrorism in there

The 4 horsemen of the Infocalypse:
Child porn
Terrorism
Money laundering
Drugs

Those are things they use to attack the net. I would also add piracy to that list. Stupid.
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

I read that Kim Dotcom has a bit of money in his pocket, so will mount a good defence. He is also a middle man and has an excuse..

They DO comply with DMCA take down notices, pretty quickly!!
The pirates liked it though because unlike YouTube where a video is analysed and further mirrors are removed.. Megaupload did not do it.

Its going to be interesting and Im not too pleased as I am 2 months into a 12 month premium membership. Ive asked PayPal for a refund, to see what happens... For curiosity sake.

AHHH!  That's crazy!! Napster all over again, but yeah, I can see why the site fell flat on it's face.  It was too large and there was like no way to control the files on there, although they do (did) respond quickly to take down files, like PHPAdam said.

So I guess this is just the first of many file upload sites to be taken down?

I think many of their operators will be thinking about their defence in the event they are "indited"... Unless something is uncovered that Im not  aware off, such as emails/letters asking pirates to upload more (lol) or money laundering or such like. I think MegaUpload has a good defence

I hope that someone starts a class action lawsuit for the destruction of legitimate intellectual property hosted by megaupload. I can't access my business records and am suffering thousands of dollars a day in damages as a result.  Wink

Maybe a DCMA filing against the Feds for interfering with your legitimate business?

Why didn't they just go the route of YouTube and analyze any uploaded files?  If the file signatures matched that of a previously DCMA'd file, then don't allow the upload.

Anyone could contact Anonymous guys? They should tweet that they accept Bitcoins donations. This is our chance.

Bitcoin-based upload services should capitalize on this by spending a little on advertising in the next months.

I've got mixed feelings about MU right now...

Quote from: me
1) I randomly got my account suspended...with no emails or anything with about 150 days left on premium. This was about 2-3 weeks ago.
2) I decide to buy a new premium account with their special going on for 4 years. This was about 10 days ago.
3) FBI takes down their site

How should I feel?

I hope you don't live in the US.

With the NDAA being signed...wishing they don't say that you were providing material support to terrorists :/  Hate to see you sent to Gitmo indefinitely.  Since megaupload was charged with distributing terrorist materials also.

Makes me wonder if they'll try to pull some NDAA shit on the 7 people they extradite back to the US.

You can't plead anything; NDAA does not grant you a trial.

You didn't need to upload anything, you provided material support (MONEY) to suspected terrorists (MEGAUPLOAD).

Bunker up ;(

Did you supply money to Megaupload, in any fashion ?

If you can answer "yes" to that question...get prepared for your trip !
