i was wondering, assuming an S1 is using wi-fi, could another device
be connected to the wired network port and share the s1 wi-fi connection?

ie: a non-wifi networking device?

hopefully the antminer s1 software is just a linux or bsd variant and that it
supports iptables. and possibly simply a case of setting up firewall forwarding
rules via iptables Huh

anyone actually done anything like this?

yes, you would need to setup wifi as client and pseudo-bridge or nat it to ethernet ... consider OpenWRT wiki for instructions (relayd)

i did the reverse scenario which is more straightforward

You might also need to clone your internet routers MAC address depending on how evil your ISP is.  Roll Eyes

The TP-Link MR3020 was designed for this job by the way (adding WIFI to a network socket). You can pick them up pretty cheap on eBay.
