I am currently using 40kw of electricity for my miners and was wondering if a 2.5 ton AC would be sufficient to lower the ambient temperature between 80-90 F. I have a 3000 cfm fan pulling air out of the room and a 3000 cfm fan bringing in 80 F air in. The room temperature is 115 F. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I just purchased an Arctic cooler for my GPU ( http://www.arctic.ac/) and it took the temp down from from 90c to 69c and almost no noise. It was $99 but Im planning on getting another one since Im so impressed.

some math 40kw is 40,000 x 4btu = 160,000 btu a 2.5 ton ac unit is 30,000 btu. So my guess is no it will not drop your temps from 115 to 90. 40kwatt is close to 100 s-1's what miners do you own?

Also you have 80F temp for intake of 3000cfm air. Will that go to a higher number in the summer? http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/power/kW_to_BTU.htm your 40k load is about 136485 btu. If you feed 80f in at 3000cfm it helps cooling somewhat. If you pull 3000 cfm out in hot air it helps. since you are gaining 35 degrees 115 in room vs the 80 coming in. you need the extra cooling. My home is 2000 sq feet well insulated and I have a 2.5 ton ac unit. when it is 100f my ac needs to run constantly during the day to keep my home at 76f this is a 24 degree drop. you are looking to drop 35 degrees which is 50% more. also you 'sun' never sets. ie the miners run 24/7. so you are looking at at least a 4 ton unit. but the rooms size and the 80 air being pulled in are factors needed to see if more then 4 ton setup is needed.

Summer it will probably reach 100 F outside so I would turn the intake around and push 6000 cfm of hot air out. No sense in bringing 100 F air in.

My suggestion would be to improve your fans and how they are plumbed. There should not be any opening around the fan body, where air could back flow out of the room. Same applies to the exhaust fan. Proper air flow at 80f would be far cheaper than air conditioning. How do your S1's run at 115F ambient? i

I have my miners in an air conditioned room and its kept really cold at all times. Keep em cool and keep em running.

I did find 25000 btu window air conditioners for $599 each. I am wondering if these will work for my setup. I was thinking about putting 2 in for a total of 50000 btu.

Most of the cheaper wall units are not really rated for consistent 24/7 use, so you might end up with some downtime. At the least I would buy an extended warranty on it.

You don't want to pull air out of the room. You want to move the super hot air away from the miners. BIG DIFFERENCE. Un-engineered, the room air will act like a heat sink, absorbing the hot air coming from the miners. Using fans to blow on the miners to "cool" them accelerates the room air heat sink effect. Then exhausting this ROOM AIR outside is very inefficient and really does not do much unless your exhaust fans are the size of a wind tunnel. You have to directly exhaust the hot air coming from the miners. Try building an air-tight shroud structure around your miners. And fiberglass insulate. Add ductwork at the top to draw out the air to the outside. The bottom, cut a hole to which you are blowing air IN. If it is air-tight or reasonable so (the insulation and corners caulking will help a lot), the incoming cooler air will push out the hot air thru your ductwork. And you also run the fans cooler. The smaller you can make this "shroud/air tight enclosure" (make sure you have good air circulation space around the miners though), the more efficient the cooling. Exhausting an entire room's air to the outside won't make all that much difference and you will still get overheated miners. Experiment with miner placement and having the miner's covers off or not, have both an exhaust fan and intake fan, etc. The overall air intake would be from plain outside air --leave open a window.

My current setup is like this.

Sorry for the crappy drawing. The two openning at the bottom go to the office side. The fan out sits in between the two walls and the hot side of the miner blows into that area. Its 60 deg out today and the hotter side is 92 while the colder side where the miners is 82. I was thinking about pushing the miners so they are sitting to the left of the fan out window and put a 25000 btu air conditioner there and make the fan blowing in blow out. Not sure if anyone has any ideas on a better setup.

40000 w * 3.4 btu/w = 136,000 btu heat generation. Rough, general, sometimes/often wrong is to spend half again as much on cooling. 136,000 / 2 = 68,000 BTU cooling 1 Ton is 12,000 BTU/Hr So, if you believe all the rough generalities, you need a 6 ton AC unit. Even if it is wrong, it gets you into the right ballpark.

There is a 5 ton unit on the office side and I am going to be installing a 5 ton unit on the miner side so I am thinking between the 2 that should be more then enough.

Search on the internet how to get a proper windflow going if you are having problems with that. more coolers can do the trick but will cost you a lot more money. There are techniques to help you with that airflow.
