Author Topic: Question about dreams/night terrors, do you get them?  (Read 3918 times)

So I've had many discussions in my life regarding this issue.

My dreams have always been a little more hands on than most.

i grew up in an old farm house that was handed down through generations. I remember having these dreams when I was a kid that just seamed really messed up.  I could see them coming, if that makes sense.

It's like dreaming about total darkness, but it's like someone is watching. You feel like you are in danger but you can't wake up.  When I do manage to wake up I can see images that look like ghosts and shit.

When dream like this there are weird noises in the background that don't make sense.  I've done a little research on them and they appear to be night terrors but different.  I'm in my mid 30's and I really would like them to stop.

Anyone else having the same kind of experiences?  Any thoughts? Ways to get rid of them?

Well for me, it's those nights where you cant sleep and you expect the same thing to happen again.  Yes, everyone has dreams, but the night terrors always seem to end the same way.  Sometimes, it's like a never ending nightmare for the night.

I used to have weird recurring nightmares as a kid, but I don't think I've had any as an adult. I have plenty of dreams, but like the user above said I forget them very quickly after waking up.

One god advice - don't sleep on your back. This encourages a special kind of nightmare known as sleep paralysis, in which you feel like you are awake and alert while at the same time you  cannot move. Sufferers also feel breathless and/or sense an 'unknown presence' in the room.

I'd try talking to your doctor if you think he/she can be trusted with this. But I've had totally weird dreams where I'd wake up and not be sure whether I was still dreaming or not. Then I'd recover and be like, "That was weird," and then in the morning I would only remember that it happened.

learn to enjoy them Smiley no, for real, i know it sounds crazy, but i sometimes have a real blast.
Its not so easy, but with time you can learn to have lucid dreams - you will know ure dreaming, and when u manage to be aware of the dream, but remain calm so that u dont wake up, nothing will make you feel so good.

Do you get startled easily?

I have a friend who has suffered from nightterrors even since he was young. He gets scared and startled so easily and he is sure it's because of the nightterrors he has been having.

The only terror dream I have is falling off from a very tall building.

Have been having the same type of dream since I was a kid that it no longer frighten me.

Oh, I know. I've talked to a few different doctors over the years, nothing really useless ever seems to come out of them.  Just curious to hear other peoples experiences.

I hear what you're saying and I can somewhat do that with certain dreams.  Night terrors are a whole new ball game though. I've tried to remain calm and twist them, but it never seems to happen.

Not sure if I'd say I get startled easy, sometimes sure.  That usually only happens when I'm really tuned into something.  I used to dread them growing up as I used to get them constantly.  I don't get them nearly as often as I used to, sometimes I forget about them, then they come back again.

sometimes i also have nightmare but an old saying dont sleep when you are full does make sense when it comes to medical term sometimes nightmare can be distinguish as a heart attact

Never thought about the lack of sleep part of it.  Could be a huge part of it.  I've had issues sleeping ever since I was a kid. I'll have to try and pay attention to my lack of sleep when I get them.

On the bright side I saw a statistic that people with certain sleep disorders have a higher IQ than the average. I am also a sleep walker so my IQ must be way up there.  Grin

I get more sleep depravation when I'm gambling and winning my bitcoin. When I lose everything I tend to sleep like a baby then I wake up and think FFS!

I used to sleep walk when I was a kid apparently.  From what i remember, I only did it a few times.  I remember being at a sleepover when I was 12 or so.  Couple of us were still up.  We watched a buddy get up, walk over to the corner, took a piss, than went back to his sleeping bag.  Figured he was awake, but he was sound asleep the whole time apparently.  When we woke him up, he didn't remember doing it. LOL!
