So I tried to setup solo mining just for fun.

Bitcoin-core is running as sever and BFGMiner does connect, but there are no shares accepted and BFGMiner keeps repeating "Pool 2 isn't providing work fast enough" several times followed by "Pool 2 has catched up to new block".

What am I overlooking/doing wrong?

Are you using stratum?  If not you'll get that error.  You might need to install the stratum proxy to serve stratum to your miner.

Ah I see. Thx will look it up and install it.

Edit: Ok I have read up about it: Are you sure I need a stratum proxy when doing local solo mining? I have the miner connected to the same machine that runs bitcoin-core.

OK. I educated myself about stuff:

The stratum-proxy mentioned in this thread is obsolete and outdated stuff. What it did was enable OLD mining software that used the getwork-protocol to connect to pools using the stratum protocol.

So it did not help at all in my case.

What was causing the problem in my case was that i was at the same time connected to ghash's pool and to my Bitcoin-Core client. I just removed the ghash pool info from BFGMiner's config and voila solo mining works like a charm.

Mind you: I was trying to solomine using BFGMiner, Bitcoin-Core and 2 Antminer U2s. All on the same Windows 7 PC.
