I for one am getting sick of the constant new topics filled with FUD and bullshit, in a newbie's pathetic attempt to cause price movements.

What do you lot recon?

Nothing will really stop them. If you make it 100 hundred posts then they'll just spam their way to that. I think bringing the newbie jail back would be a good idea though. Maybe limiting newbs to starting threads only in beginners & help for a short period would cut down on this issue.

A combination of this, and the newbie jail and increasing the time between posts for newbies, jr. members and even members might do the trick. Maybe even increasing the activity needed for the ranks by a bit?

Letting them create topics after any amount of posts is just going to cause more spam and more people will try to pad their post counts with useless crud. If this were to be implemented, it would have to be measured on activity or something else you can't spam your way that fast.

You could do it on activity or measure it on time logged in instead, so at least people have to actively browse/read, but whatever restrictions are put in place many will try find a way around or cheat their way out of them.

I do remember when we hand newbie jail we had a lot more relevant posts on the main discussion board.

I'll had an extra option in the poll to add this.

I think this is wrong cause you all were newbies once, if not then this forum cant grow and bring new members to the world of bitcoin,  Forums could get crowded I agree, maybe you can ask theymos to create a thread for you hero members only so you can talk amongst yourselves,  Or put a paid section so newbies that dont have a few bitcoins cant afford to pay to post in a top member section of the threads

A pay option isn't a bad idea, but would be too much for theymos to setup I suspect.

Yes I was a newbie once. I spent months trolling the forums, then once I registered I spent more time learning.  I then posted in the relevant threads to earn my right to post in the proper threads. I wouldn't change a thing about that as I learned how to communicate properly. Otherwise I would have been spamming the forums with crap if it weren't for newbie jail.

There's actually already a pay option to unlock accounts that have been banned for using certain banned connections or whatever, so I don't think it'd be that difficult to implement. I don't think they should charge newbs to join, but maybe an option to automatically whitelist those who want to skip the newbie jail/restrictions would be a decent idea.

actually is not cause I seen that option for SMF forum developers, he can add a paid section, and more revenue for theymos, and mods wont have to moderate that section because they are paid members,  or maybe not, but is just an idea for hero and senior members.

oh yeah and no sig members allowed in the paid section, then you have a thread where only the top will post and contribute at.  I think a 0.05 fee will suffice.

The poll choices are kind of strange. I find it slightly ambiguous. Maybe change it to something like "Should members with less than 100 posts be allowed to create new threads?"

The signature campaign posters adding useless redundant fluff to their posts to reach their minimum word count are lowering my IQ.

Minimum post counts do nothing, the culprits are partially the sig campaigns that all have minimum post requirements before they pay out, if you check out some of these spammers you'll see they have a sig attached to them and that's why they're doing it, they're even creating seemingly legitimate threads in off topic and so on.

Unfortunately, some members here aren't that bright and haven't picked up on this tactic yet and they post in them letting them effortlessly increase their post count.

The people spreading the fud topics are usually newbs or Jnr members without signatures, but I don't disagree with you about people posting nonsense - or largely silly/stupid threads - in off-topic, but half the time they're just newbs without sigs seemingly just trying to build up their post count, but saying that, it still is an off-topic forum and crappy threads are to be expected.

You might want to restart the poll since some people, including me, were slightly confused because of that. Tongue

Maybe force new topics made in sections that are identified as very controversial to be moderated before they are submitted if they are from Newbies/Jr. Members?

I'm sure the mods will agree this would be far too much work for them. I wonder if any restrictions or the newbie jail will be brought back for the new forums though?

Doubt that newbie jail restrictions will return. And regarding the moderated threads, that's kind of over the top in my opinion.
