It would seem the price of the R9's should be dropping soon, states Forbes..

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/05/13/retail-pricing-for-radeon-r9-graphics-cards-back-to-normal-amd-promises-stability/

Im glad, ive been waiting for this.. but the 290X's still in the $500 range ill wait.

290X is just a showpiece.. better to just use the 290's or 280x

they squeezed more performance out of the 290x with way more heat and power use

Is GPU mining still profitable?
Ofc, I'm talking about Scrypt-N & X11 and other non-ASIC algo's...

And how does AMD compare to NVIDIA when it comes to above mentioned algos?

Its profitable to min scrypt-n and the new scrypt pump and dump POS+POW combo coins that seem to come out weekly as long as you dump them as soon as they hit exchanges.

mostly it depends on your electricity costs.  I have 15MHZ in gpu mining and I still make around 15-20$ per day after .10c/KWH electricity costs.  I'm not selling though i trade the shitcoins for VertCoint and Darkcoin when the prices are low.

I will probably expand to 20MHZ if gpu prices drop below $300.  I believe that once the scrypt asics hit the scrypt-n and X-11 coins will take off

I assume you have AMD cards?

The R9 270 is the best card. Look at how many stream processors you get for the price and a single 6-pin PCI-E power connector. $/GH W/GH Wink

On eBay the 290(x) is going for $275-$300 for the reference designs, what a decrease from a few months back. It's nice to see, especially if you're in the market for a new GPU.

But do you still get the warranty in the case the cards burn out prematurely? I would think if you buy them 2nd hand may not be able to send them back to AMD for warranty covered by whatever the original buyer had.

That's a good question, I know some brands go by serial numbers but I'm not sure about reference models.

Yes, exactly. She used them as a form of art. She had them framed an placed all six of them in the shape of an octagon. Because she's so old she forgot that an octagon has eight sides though so it really looked messed up.  Grin

Really though. These have been used since Jan 2014.
