There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

First post in a very long time ... can you explain ?

+1

This is the third loan request in as many days from accounts that have not been used for a long time.  Looks a little odd.

On the other hand maybe we are just seeing a resurgence in the usage of interest in bitcoin after a break due to the price drop. I returned to the community only recently after a long break.

Yes, that's entirely possible too.  People drift way from projects and come back to them.  I'm just using some skeptical eyes.

I really don't understand how you can just walk up to a complete stranger and offer them money without even asking them questions first Smiley I thought I was risk-tolerant but compared to you (and others who seem to do this a lot) I guess I'm a trembling coward Tongue I just don't think 2 bitcoins in a week justifies the risk.

How do you know he didn't talk to him over PM ?

Sure, it's definitely possible. I'm just wary of a three-day-old account popping up out of nowhere and offering to fund scary loans with no questions asked. Shills are scary Smiley

I'm not saying shady business is going on here. But it's worth being aware of the risks.

I can't tell if this is a joke, I am going to assume you are mocking me.

Well it probably doesn't, and I am inexperienced. I just hope I am not getting screwed.

hmm

You make an excellent point, and I agree with you, but I don't think you should be so black-and-white in your assessment of the situation. There are many other possible interpretations, and we should keep an open mind, even if we both know what you said is true.

hmm
I totally agree.

Unless I already know someone I always look up the posts of a person I am going to lend money to in order to "get to know them" before I do it.

In this case the money had already been lent before I was able to look them up but here is what I see:

Aug 29, 2011 - probable valid post from this user
Jan 14, 2012 - their Mt. Gox account was hit by a phishing scam - they probably used the same password here
Jan 25, 2012 - the "new owner" of the account asks for and gets a loan here

Nothing since.  I expect the new owner has changed the password, email, etc. and the previous owner may not even know what is going on.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

Was just informed of this thread.  Your assessment was correct BurtWagner, my forum account was compromised.  Need to get used to operating securely in the wild west that is Bitcoin.  -_-
