Sure, it can be.
Master nodes with needed 1000 DRK create strong buying pressure. Smart move from dev.

I doubt people would like such a thing if it was in Bitcoin.  $500,000 - $1,000,000 or higher would be the price.  The moto of bitcoin is "be your own banker", and that kind of creates federal reserve branches that collect fees for using the system.

Darkcoin is certainly interesting but believing that DRK could reach 1000$ within a few months is just insane. That's the same mindset that Blackcoin users had as they got pumped. And now it gets back to a more realistic price although they have a large community and support the price with a large multipool. It's just hype. But of course DRK has nice features which is good for the long term which e.g. BC don't have.

With bitcoin at 440 it seems impossible. However:

http://www.coindesk.com/56-of-bitcoiners-believe-bitcoin-will-reach-10000-in-2014/

"More than half of bitcoiners believe the price of their favourite digital currency will reach $10,000 this year, a CoinDesk poll has revealed."

If bitcoin goes to 10.000 during a H2 pump, as most bitcoiners seem to believe, LTC will go to something like 233$ and DRK at 140$ (that's with current prices of 0.023 and 0.014). And that's assuming that the BTC boom affects alts in a uniform way (instead of a booming way because alts are smaller markets and can act as "btc on steroids" in both pumps and dumps)... for example Lite went up to 50$ around the time of the rise of BTC in Q4 2013.

Thing is, LTC has 6.6x the coins of DRK. It has failed in its primary mission of ASIC resistance and seems like a dinosaur in terms of features.

Coin-adjusted (x6.6) the price of DRK goes from 140$ to 924$.

If this coin has good qualities but you feel the dev and his pals launched it in a dishonest way, do you know what you do?

Fork 'em.

This 100%.

i got in early on darkcoin, gotta say there is nothing special about it. the wallet was buggy as hell and the dev was quite happy to leave it so.
not really a coin for the future. more of a p&d scheme (or at least, that's how i seen it)

Darkcoin definitely offers a lot innovation in comparison to most new currencies but that alone isn't enough.

Its allegedly anonymous transactions seem a great selling point but they do not offer solutions to many of the problems of the currency it it ultimately based upon i.e. Bitcoin. Darkcoin is also heavily premined and this is not a good for its image.

$25 is plausible but $1000 is absolutely preposterous.

no. because cryptonight coins like bytecoin and monero etc. With anonymity that doesnt rely on master nodes.

With that reasoning is it safe to say that investing in currencies such as NXT is not a bad thing?
Im hoping it will pay off in time, but im not expecting a quick return like with what Darkcoin is doing.
I think NXT is a long term investment that will really take off once people get wind of it (or believe in it)

It almost seems too good to be true with darkcoin, but, people possibly have made millions from it already.
Such pump and dumps do alot of damage to crypto currency as a whole.
The other thing (to the developers advantage) is if Him and his friends hold a huge instamine balance, there is no way of tracing their dumps into the exchanges when they cash out.
Of course, we will probably see in the blockchain the large deposits made, but no way to verify who's address they came from.

Guys, i do not want to make waves, but DRK is not as bad as you think. Like every coin its has problems, pumps, dumps, but read its thread, is better than you think.

I dont think it will reach 1000 never, i think 25-50$ is a good price (we must know that even the high price, mining DRK still being inprofitable)

I think the first one to implement zerocoin will be the first true rival to BTC...other than that, DRK will never see $500, let alone $1000....

+1 to NXT being the next riser...just my .02$

If someone figured that out, they would create their own coin and give themselves like 1% premine....

I doubt anyone would help for little pay.

What I'm trying to say is if you haven't figured out how to implement zerocoin yourself, good luck. :|

The devs for the darkcoin imo might've gotten a little greedy giving themselves 10%. It had huge potential to destroy Bitcoin.
