How I get to a position where I can post? It keeps saying I less than 360 seconds since my last post. But I waited hours and I still get that message.

You need to wait the full 6 minutes before you post. Log-ins and attempted posts count. Log-in, wait 6 minutes, then try post and you'll be fine. The time limit decreases the more activity you get.

Thanks, as I waited more than one hour, I had to login again, as the session timed out. That explains it.

I don't get how you felt like you were having problems with posting, yet managed to make a thread about it?

Try creating a new account and you will see. This is the most frustrating time I ever had with any forum. It took me many failures to find out that as a newbie I could post here but not in the main threads. After each failure I would do something else in disgust and when I came back to this forum my session had expired, I logged in and tried to repost the message I want to send, and it always failed, telling me I had not waited for 360 seconds. I tried creating another account, but the restrictions are IP locked. It took me a long time to find out it was something to do with being a newbie, and even then I could not find out what exactly the restriction are, only answers to answers to other queries that hinted that after some unknown number of posts that keeps changing, I would be promoted beyond newbie one day. I provided an email address when I registered, but nothing. Why not send a welcome message explaining the restrictions to first time users?

Is it that hard? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0

Not much you can do, you have to wait it out. Wait for the 360 seconds etc.

Surf the forum for 6mins++ and see if your "Total time logged in:" has increased by 6 minutes or more. You can now post. The main reason is because the system cannot detect if you are active or not so the total time logged in will not increase if you are not active.

It's not based on your active time but the forum time. It really doesn't matter wether you're active or not; just wait at least 6 minutes after you post or log in and you'll be fine.

I had to surf a few threads to post. The time logged in is only recorded for a certain period of time after you post. So i guess the 6 minutes will be recorded. Sorry for the confusion.

You don't have to surf the forum; just wait. Your total time logged in only counts for active browsing/posting though, but the time period you have to wait between posts isn't based on that thankfully.

I still have the same thing, but I just wait 6 minutes and I can post again, I think from 16 activity you need to wait a shorter period of time before posting again.

Once you are Jr. Member you wont have any problems. The higher your rank, the shorter the waiting times

IIRC, around the point of about a Member the minimum time between posts is small enough that you won't get notices telling you that you can't post unless you are literally spamming a new post every couple of seconds. I'm not too sure whether it gets lower from there on - has any of the staff ever mentioned it for the higher levels?

from newbie readme:
waittime = 360; if(activity >= 15) waittime = (int)(90 - activity); if(activity >= 60) waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity)); if(activity >= 100) waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);
so your waiting time will start to decrease in the 3th week, when you have 15 activity, and will be no less than 15s 4s

This is on point. When your status is changes, the wait time gets less. So just way until you become a jr.member and the activity grows.

Out of curiosity I tried to post 2 times straight away. The restriction for me seems to be 11 seconds.

I dont know..
