If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?

It depends on your goals and objectives.

I think Goldcoin (GLD) is the best investment on the market at the moment. It's trading near its six month low at the moment with a ground breaking client due out in June.

Truly depends on what you want the coins for, the coins that have been offered to you by Anon136 are the best cause they are free  Smiley You should heed his advice and accept his offer (if you have not already) so that you become familiar with those coins.
Researching a coin will be the best way to figure out if its something you will be interested in, taking advice from someone on which is best is a bad idea and could cause you to kick yourself later as altcoins see dramatic volatility, one day a coin is up, next day its replaced by another.
Never invest what you cannot afford to lose.
Obviously a strong community helps protect against large losses, newer coin's will hold the highest risk's and have less places to spend them, but can be fun and exciting if your a early adopter and can follow all the developments over time, ask the LTC early adopter's or Primecoin and maybe they can give you an idea of what that has been like.
I used to pick the coins that were fun, now involved in my own project and i keep an eye on the coins that are working toward's actively marketing cyptocurrency to new user's.

It does make a difference.
There are anonymous people developing coins for anonymous users (the hot alt's), and then transparent people creating coins for everyone, then you have others creating coins for themselves

Just do not choose the coins that were created for the developer to make a dump soon as it hits exchange.

First be sure to check out the ANN thread here on bitcointalk to see if anyone is reporting bad things about it. They might not be true but youll be more aware. Check out when the coin came out, and how volatile it has been. What exchanges have it? What is the daily trade volume like?

Most coins are just pointless copies that do nothing for digital currencies except make the creator happy the coin got out there. Try to choose a coin that actually brings something unique to the world of digital currency. For litecoin it was Scrypt, for Doge it was the meme, for Vertcoin it was scrypt-N. Look for things unique like that. In the end, its all up to just what you would like your money to go into to support

ITT = Everyone pumping their own coins.

honestly though, just look for coins with:

strong developers
strong communities
reasonable concepts

avoid coins with:

instamines
flashmines
premines
stupid names
shills, cheerleaders and sockpuppets
self-moderated ann threads (this is a big one, the losers over at blackcoin and cinni keep deleting my comments if they feel it will hurt their scamcoins.)

read my hobonickels journal if you want a real-life example of what a good coin looks like and how one can profit from it. Don't believe anyone who can't back up their claims with real life proof.

Check out sharecoin
free fair giveaway with an exchange that shares profit with holders
Development seems rock solid...

And keep an eye on zero cash if it ever comes out..
Other than that I'd say use your common sense and research the coin.
Never buy a coin that has done more than 400% in a week.. it's in a bubble.
Even if it looks like it should be worth more just wait and buy it after its bubble.
No coins increase 4x without a major retraction before moving up again.

If your not actively using the technology behind your crypto investment,

IT IS A SCAM!!!!
