I have a method

Look at number of max coins / by the coins in curculation, higher is better
Look at # of wallets / the % of top 100 richest addresses Lower is better

Winners of this formula are:

1, Darkcoin http://bitinfocharts.com/darkcoin/
2. Peercoin http://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/
3. Dogecoin  http://bitinfocharts.com/dogecoin/
4. litecoin  http://bitinfocharts.com/litecoin/
5. Bitcoin http://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/

You are just in time for the first anonymous digital currency. https://darkcointalk.org/

ITT = Everyone pumping their own coins.

OP,  don't get confused with the smoke and mirrors.

Don;t spend more than you can afford.
There is only one method, mine/buy yourself some btc and hodl/

If you are going for alts,
look for coins that are older that 3-6 months, with a serious team or better yet various teams behind it,
and not random coindev accounts that will go "undercover" once the coin hits the first exchange.

Coins that are already in the market accepted by merchants in your area so that you can use them to buy
physical goods from actual businesses and not only websites that can be set up overnight.

while many coins are directed at niche markets and maybe could survive in the long term, it is a very long bet,
so i'll just repeat once again, dont spend more that you can afford.

Look for a coin that has a good community around it.

Read through the thread.
If its a week old and has 15 to 20 pages, good chance your going to lose your money.
If it is 200 plus pages long read every 4 pages if you dont have time to read them all. If there is good or bad it should be quoted a bunch of times. HOWEVER, once you decide you may want to buy. Read it all first.
Also, if it is new and is gaining a bunch of pages a day, this is a indicator to look into it further, doesnt mean its automatically good tho.
If its self moderated. BIG RED FLAG!!!

If its an IPO, be very skeptical. If they dont offer escrow, leave right away!#!!#!!!!!!# RUN.

Watch for the difference between a feature that is actually present now, or "coming soon".
Examples:
1. A lot of people dont even know that darkcoin isnt even anonymous yet. Well. Technically their Darksend works, but with only 10 coins.
2. Liberty coin "has" zerocoin tech its using, but the devs dont know if it works come to find out. But the first page was saying it had it. Note this was a few days ago. I dont know whats up now and dont care.

Watch out for devs that are there lol, are helpful, and display leadership ability. This is huge and can make all the difference in the world. Sharecoin for example, dev is a total pro.

There is much more but this will shorten your list down quite a bit lol.

The importance of arbitrary message is for things like asset exchange and alias registration. Those are actually done via arbitrary message in the background. Since it was already there there was no reason not to go ahead and allow people to use it for sending messages. Its no replacement for email thats for sure but it is usueful for example if you want to contact someone who owns an alias and he hasnt posted any contact information on the internet. Also its useful if you run a business and you want people to be able to contact you but only if its actually important. Other various things.

As for whats the advantage thats a very long and complicated answer but ill try to make it short and simple. Essentially what we have is very good security at low cost on a platform that is as open as possible to new layers of innovation built on top of the core. This doesnt sound like much but its actually a much bigger deal than it sounds. With bitcoin security is actually very very expensive (mostly this cost is born by savers in the form of inflation but not visible due to increasing demand) and in my estimation actually less secure than nxt even with that higher cost. Also its not a very open platform, infact the bitcoin devs have been somewhat non cooperative with the mastercoin devs.

If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?
