You say that a lot. I'm too lazy to google it, so what does it mean?
1. And others; to complete a list, especially of people, as authors of a published work.
2. And elsewhere; from et alibi, to complete a list of places.
Formerly, this was preferred by some over etc. for lists of people in all contexts. At present the two abbreviations are used synonymously in many contexts for completing lists. However, in lists of authors of a published work et al. is still used.
@OP: Depends how much he was offered. Everyone has a price - and I have no doubt if offered enough he would be willing to move over. It's just that I'm doubtful anyone would be willing to offer that much is all.
