Hey Smiley

i am somewhat interested in getting an account. Just one question.. If its a shared IP and we get 11 ports each, does that mean that port 80/443 etc etc is already in use ? So I couldn't use this as a web server running on port 80 ?

thanks

That is correct; you cannot use port 80/443. You can run a web server on a different port, though.

Thank you binary, beat me to it =P

Yea, you'd have to use an odd port, say 4070(4071 for SSL?) could be used, web browsers would treat it normally like the speed test file...there's only a select few ports they refuse to connect to though.

I didn't know Freenode did a lot of active moderation; I thought they only banned malicious bots and the like.

They apparently ban open proxies....guess its a way to stop any new proxies that get by...

As a reminder to everyone, Payments are be due by the 7th of the month, and if you fail to pay by then, the VPS will be turned off on the 10th, and deleted after the 20th.

Please send payments to the address given to you upon sign up, no need to remind me, i'll see it.

If you have any questions, lost your address, wanting to cancel, or anything at all don't hesitate to PM me or join me on IRC.

I think we're having a great start with the new server, first month is almost over and things are still looking up.  I enjoy all of you and greatly appreciate your business.  I hope we all have more great months ahead of us.

I'm quite interested in this, although I'm currently looking for a Windows VPS.

May I ask why your business (or most that I've seen) runs Ubuntu instead of Windows? Is it because Ubuntu is a free OS? If so, couldn't you simply purchase a Windows 7 business license?

As far as I know, it's not exclusive to just the OS' provided - a custom one can be installed upon request. It's just that the provided ones are much quicker to install =P

As to Windows VPS', I think one of the other customers has one as well, so I assume that mrgasp would be willing to install another one to fit your needs.

Be sure to, when you visit to IRC, just ask your questions, and stay tuned for a reply (better way would be to provide contact information, however). MrGaSp would most likely see it within a few hours, or else I or Diab1o could pass it on.

Sorry I missed you on IRC, I was out for a while.

The server doesn't have the video rendering capacity to host many Windows Operating systems.  The one i have hosted has had many many strange issues, random lock ups, services not starting, etc, the client is happy with that though.. So i run it.

I could perchance a license, but i simply do not have the money for it.  VPS Squared runs one server, and about 5 VPSs as of now, there's not much activity.  I do it mostly for the fun, while paying for power and possible upgrades and what not.

Windows requires, generally, Remote Desktop, thus needing a UI, and then needing the server to render the video, sure one screen wont take long, but several adds to the cost.  I've learned that running a VPS with a video card, reduces the speed drastically, most of the cycles are spent on rendering and what not..

The one VPS that runs windows server 2008, pays more than a comparable linux.

Clarify on bravetheheat's message, yes it is faster to use preloaded operating systems, just as fast as a copy of a 2GB file.  I will install most other linux operating systems without hesitation though.  Just give me some extra lead time, installing one takes a bit, getting faster at it after deciding to do it completely in RAM.

Sorry for being absent quite a bit. There's been a lot of things going on in my personal life.  My wife's grandpa had a major stroke that they couldn't stop because of a shot he had that day.. So hes really disabled (hopefully) for the time being.  So i simply haven't been home much at all.

Anyway, before its too late...

Payments are due on the 7th, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to pm or email me.  Thank you for the great support though everything guys!

Next month's payments are due on the 7th again, thank you again for the pleasure of hosting your servers.

A few changes will be happening after this month.  I should be moving to a new place, the issue is that this new place doesn't have good internet.  If internet speed(quality should be close to same) wont be a major issue I will happily keep hosting.  If everyone drops off I'll still accept new clients.

So there's no confusion, the server move will happen between the 29th and 31st, as long as i can leave the server up I will.  Please note, the IP will be changing.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

At 5PM (PDT / About 1 hour from post) I will begin moving the server, I should have them running again sometime tonight.

I'll Post the new IP when they are all functioning.  The network they are on is a DSL 1Mbit Down, and the Up needs to be tested. I'll do that when I am setting the network up.  This is servearly under-par than the last one, If you need a faster connection, I really can't help you right now.  Cry

If this network will work for you, you are welcome to keep the VPS, I will likely drop the rate due to the network change and the increase in BTC price.  In other words, WAIT to pay the next month and contact me.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Server Moved, Everything should be functioning at the least.

IP: 50.39.237.109
Ports: The same given to you before

Bandwidth: 1mbit/ 0.4mbit (May increase someday)

If the VPS' stop being rented, I will put a hold on this service and start it up one day in a year or two...or 4.. with a set of dedicated IPs, and loads more bling, and as always, the same loyalty and honesty.  Thank you for the run regardless!
