Hi, I'm new to this...when I try to run the gui for pool mining... my GPU quickly goes from 40 degrees C to 65, my screen goes to standby, and then the computer restarts itself, I assume to protect my hardware from damage. Just wondering how I can fix this and start generating bitcoins with my GPU. Am willing to pay someone some bitcoins to help me ???this working. I've tried setting fan speed to 100% but that doesn't stop it. See link below for a pic my GPU specifications and stuff. http://oi55.tinypic.com/ermo8x.jpg

I looks like power supply problem or other hardware problem. You can't diagnose it without physical inspection of the system.
You can check if all the power supply cables fit tightly and the card sits properly in the socket. If it's OK, it might be a poor power supply. Such problems (working on idle and hanging or resetting on load) are typically a result of not enough power.

Sounds like a thermal problem. Have you checked all your fans if they are working or if there is dust on the heat sinks?

thermal problem at only 65C on a 5770? seems a bit low to me (i don't have a 5770 though).

yeah, definitely low. It should run at 80 deg without any problems. BTW, if that memory clock setting is correct that is ridiculously low. Mine runs as 1200 MHz.

I have to admit, that I don't have a 5770 but my old GeForce 9800GTX showed a similar behaviour and it didn't overheat too. After removing a bunch of dust from the card the problem was solved

vrm temps might be spiking.. Dust could cause this. Check power cables, dust, pci connection. If your problem persists swap your power supply out.

I would say Power supply problem. My 5850 runs at 91C without any issues.

Good suggestion. OP, how many watts is your power supply? Please don't say 350 :S Is it a dell computer? Or is it a pre-built computer? Most of those come with the smallest possible PSU required... you might have to upgrade your PSU.

That's actually smart For this, all the work goes to the core, so running the memory only generate more heat and more power conumption. The optimal is overclock the core as much as you can and downclock the memory as much as you can.

Can you tell us how many Amps the power supply has on the 12v rails? If you know the PSU model, you can look it up, or there should be a sticker on the PSU itself. It should say something like 12v1 @20A 12v2 @20A etc. Some powersupplies have multiple 12v rails, others have one with a lot of amps on it. If its a power supply issue, one thing you could try as a test is do underclock the graphics card. Run it at like 50% its rated memory and core clock, then see if it reboots. This will significantly decrease the wattage. Also, when it restarts... is it flashing a blue screen at all? Keep us posted!

+1 to it being a power supply issue.

Also gonna jump on the PSU bandwagon. 65C seems entirely too low for it to be a heat issue. My cards run at ~72C constantly without any kind of performance issue at all.

Just to further confirm, I've had similar issues attempting to run a 5850 on a 400w fairly generic PSU. I'd get random restarts after many hours of mining. After downclocking the card's memory to 300mhz, and the core down about 50mhz, it seems to have solved the issue. Need to get a better PSU in the future though.

it's a psu issue, i've had the same problem with my old 500 watt psu, now with an OCZ 900watt 90% efficiency it's all perfect and no more BSOD.
