That will be a bit harsh. Living with your girlfriend and raising your children can be hard, as there will be a lot of social pressure. Live-in couples are discriminated against, when compared to married couples.

Tom Leykis been married 3 times and hasn't paid a dollar to any of them.  They hold up as long as they're written by a lawyer and her lawyer views it and explains it to her (to remove any: "I signed under duress" claims)

Marriage with prenuptial is safer than cohabitation agreements as the latter hasn't been tested as much in court

Given that he still has a lot of money, I dont think it would be a problem for him to stay alive. Marriage is a legal contract, and sometimes legal contracts have big financial cost when broken.

Just sign a prenuptial agreement that explains what she gets in the case of a divorce. It's simple. People who aren't protecting themselves are going to get screwed; that's their own fault.

To be honest here, we dont know any of the details. We do know that they were married for 23 years -- and trying to make any assumptions about her contribution to their lives and fortune is ridiculous. And trying to limit her share to some sort of "direct" (monetary) contribution to his business interests is absurd. She got custody of the child -- wonder why? Raise his child, be the better parent, and get nothing to show for giving half ones life away to marriage when they obviously never married under that pretense in the first place (ie prenump)? When the couple shift their residence from one country to another (as has happened here), things can get complicated. Pre-nuptial agreement signed in ounce country may not be valid in another.
