The Oxford English Dictionary just added "crypotcurrency", after adding "Bitcoin" last year

Check out this example sentence:

Quote
decentralized cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin now provide an outlet for personal wealth that is beyond restriction and confiscation

Love it!

It's funny that the definition they give on the website states: "A digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank".

To transfer funds you firstly need to get the funds into Bitcoin, which is a means of transport and store. It's frustrating how the directives and FUD surrounding governments and banks have stunted speculation. But other than that, Bitcoin is doing pretty darn good.

Of course it is. We often speculate that prices will rise because a word becomes "official" based on a dictionary, :p.

Given their positive definition, I think it's the Oxford guys investing...  Smiley

One thing seems clear from their definition: They don't like banks and harassment by governments.

I don't think that most dictionaries give a sentence example of how words are used.

Except at this point in time it's still false. The coins have to be converted somehow, as not every merchant, service provider and supplier accepts cryptos. This is how it can still be restricted.
