To everyone's surprise, Bitcoin was secretly centralized! The intergalactic Bitcoin central authority has announced it will mandate a particular unit. All people who use Bitcoin must deal with and only with that particular unit. Luckily, the IBCA is kind enough to allow the community to give input into units that they approve of. Do your part!

I want to see the level of support behind the various unit proposals. In the poll above, choose all units for which you would not mind being the "default" unit for day-to-day commerce. Please note some names ("bit" in particular) are intentionally duplicated as various proposals for their meaning have arisen in the past. When there are lots of zeroes, I included the base unit ("satoshi") conversion. Tonal units are at the end to avoid confusion; otherwise, units are ordered by denomination.

Edit: Ignore the percentages. To calculate approval rate, use approval_rate = votes_for_this_option / total_voters.

Poll is invalid. No option for 'pie'.

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

we already use cents (1/100th) and mills (1/1000th) for currency, so why not use the same for bitcoin and expand on it with mikes (1/1000000th)?

So far only Bitcoin and Satoshi in it's original sense have majority approval.

It turns out that after all the awkward standardization attempts, most people still choose sanity. The majority does not see any need for additional artificially introduced units. Introducing additional units as official standards has no benefit and only adds confusion.

It is quite shocking to me though that even terms like 'microbitcoin' have less than 50% acceptance. I mean it's just a metric prefix to bitcoin. Are there that many Americans here on bitcointalk or something?

What about yardbitcoin and bitcoinounce?

Good and useful results so far. A lot of insight into what people really feel about units, since there is so much debate about this. I'll let this poll run for a few more days before posting a reflection.

That's enough for statistically significant results. We can say with 99.9% certainty, for example, that Bitcoin-bong is a widely undesired unit. Obviously more voters is better, but it's pointless to dismiss these results entirely.

Oh good another one of these threads.  Shocked

Something metric based works. Terms will be popularized and adopted on their own.

BTC0.0006 is the only new unit worth naming.

BTC0.0006 is the only new unit worth naming.

kind of true due to the satoshi dust limit not allowing for anything smaller...

but there no point naming temporary measures such as micro or 0.0006 when in a few years it will all change.. so this is why the endless discussion of atleast 9 months now has pretty much all agred to the 100satoshi being a nice round figure to name, which will be a long term thing. rather then the temporary stuff inbetweeen 100sat and 1btc
