I'm guessing they get extremely hot. The fan style they are using is terrible..

My worst performing 5870 (temperature wise) is a dual fan design. The reference design has a loud fan indeed, but it's so much better at cooling.
Exactly, my 5870 with dual fans is a piece of crap. I have been unable to confirm if a reference fan and heatsink can even be put on it, because its the second version.
