Should this activity be banned? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=621411.msg6913184#msg6913184I can't see a purpose for doing this other than it would allow someone to instantly delete any or all of their posts in the future. I doubt bitcointalk maintains archives of all linked images so post "history" would be useless for verifying or restoring "deleted" posts. As a side note it makes quoting a pain in the ass, is just generally disruptive, and makes the contents unsearchable but I am more concerned with the malicious use.

Interesting indeed. I don't like to ban nor censor things but I'd have to be neutral on this. If anything but malicious comes out, I don't see a problem.
Well the malicious use would be to delete or alter post history in a way that removes any record. Once it is used maliciously it is too late. It is kinda like saying I don't mind drinking and driving as long as the driver doesn't get into an accident. We should only ban drinking and driving accidents not drinking and driving.

In case u missed it, I have already pointed the danger here => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623277.msg6909704#msg6909704...and mprep responded against it. So we can assume Mods are aware of it. Would like to know Theymos's take regarding this.

This sounds like a bit of a ballache to go through. If your reasons for doing such are true it would be easier just to proofread your posts a couple of times before submitting.

In my opinion it's just a circumvention of the scammer restrictions...

I agree with OP. Using images allow you edit messages without even having an edit timestamp. Because of this, there is no 'easy' way to quote a user for exact text. Sure, they could take a screenshot, and it's a huge hassle to get a quote of a trade. But really, all he has to do is edit the text on his server, and bam! The quote is modified.
I know I won't be doing business with him, but I'm thinking of others. Say he makes a post in the market place for buying bitcoin. The customer goes first, and sends him the bitcoin. He sends half the rate that was agreed upon, because he modified his post to say that's the going rate, no exceptions. There'd be no way for the customer to prove otherwise, unless the rate was agreed upon in some other location. But even an image in a PM can't be verified, it'd have to be outside this forum (eg IRC).

Should this activity be banned?
Yes. It's a direct violation / circumvention of the restrictions applied to him for his actions in the past. So will he stop it or be banned? I think he knows exactly what he does wrong. So why isn't he banned? I also wonder why staff of this forums play with him. TradeFortress is a scammer. Why even keep doing some silly restrictions like 'can't edit' or whatever, why not just ban? He has caused harm to many people and still you let him continue being part of this community. You ban for far less harmful actions, too.

I'm against this because of a completely different reason: content does NOT show up in a search, neither internally nor in Google.
What's the point of gathering information in a forum when no one is able to find it?

He was warned to stop that and it seems he's heed the warning. Also, this forum is based on free speech. Besides he would just make another account.

Report to moderator for any instance of this occurring on the forum. It would then be at the discretion of staff as to whether its usage is punishable.
Very sneaky. The same could be done for images in the marketplace - although that would really be the responsibility of the buyer to screenshot the terms/pictures of what they are buying. Sneaky folk!
