Dear all,

I'm currently cycling all around Southeast Asia (www.jackandiva.com - beta) and looking to spend/trade some BTC along the way (it's the only money we have to fund the trip!). Not much can be found on http://coinmap.org for the remote parts of S.E.A. and neither on https://localbitcoins.com.... do you guys know of places which accept BTC or people that want to buy? Any other suggestions?

We're really keen to pay for things in BTC and help promote it if possible!

Thanks!  Smiley

India is in south asia not south east asia. There is a difference.

@OP: which countries in particular do you mean? There is a forum for country specific threads here:

Thanks for that, I didn't post there because I had (wrongly) thought that it was just for different languages - of which I don't speak!  Grin I will check it out...

We are going to Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand... with the possibility of cycling back to Europe too  Cool

There are not many places in the South East Asian region which accepts Bitcoin, with the notable exception of Singapore. The only option is to convert your coins to fiat using Localbitcoins, and shop with the fiat cash.

In case you are visiting Singapore, then check the list of shops here:

A very good Bar / Restaurant which accepts Bitcoin.

Might be worth registering an account with Xapo, they will be providing a Debit Card on the Mastercard, Visa? or Discover? Network:

https://xapo.com/in/campaign/debit/

Wrote to their Customer Support yesterday, they replied with this:

Thank you for reaching out and supporting Xapo! We are actually still finalizing the last few details of the debit card. We will be sending out information to all of our users - that have pre-ordered the debit card - within the next few weeks regarding the delivery and shipping details.

I hope this answers your question and please don't hesitate to reach out and contact me again if you have any more questions or concerns!

All the best,
Jessie

A lot of SE-Asian merchants and retailers currently don't accept Bitcoin yet, but most will accept Mastercard - Could be handy for you and other traveling Bitcoiners, especially when you take into account retail FEx rates   Cool

When in Thailand open an account at Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn Bank and have people on local bitcoins send you baht directly to your account instantly.

Thanks for the tip! So anyone can get a bank account in Thailand?

So far I've not managed to find any bitcoin places in southeast Asia Sad Even an ATM in George Town, Malaysia, was removed long ago Sad

Currently in Sumatra, Indonesia, and any tips for places here would be appreciated Wink

wow, sounds like a really interesting trip. Best of luck in your journeys and hopefully you are able to only use BTC along the way. That would be amazing.

I don't know about Bangkok Bank but Kasikorn is the most popular bank with foreigners I think. They might require at least a tourist visa, not sure. But anyone can open one with their passport as ID if they have a visa for sure. Not sure about visa exempt status though, probably can still open an account but I'm not sure.

I live in SE Asia.  The best advice is to post your current and next location occasionally so people can help out.

Thailand and Singapore are easy.  Cambodia seems to have the worst pricing in the world.

I live in Indonesia, one of SEA country, no place accept bitcoin as payment in Indonesia, and the best place to exchange bitcoin to Indonesian Rupiah is https://x.bitcoin.co.id , the rate is very good and fast respond, but you should have a local bank account, the transaction through bank transfer. If you have no bank account you can ask someone to help you.

How does Cambodia have the worst pricing? Last time I was there it was pretty cheap. A dollar here a dollar there. 50c beer ect.
