Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Depends on your location. You can use exchanges such as BTC-E, Bitinstant and Bitstamp. But how much time it takes for depositing / withdrawing fiat cash depends on your location. In case, the delay is significant, you can contact a reliable vendor in the localbitcoins instead.

It depends on your location and payment preference. Sites often have different payment systems.

Bittylicious and Localbitcoins worked well for me when buying. I would always prefer to buy bitcoins using these methods and sending to exchanges, rather than dealing with the exchanges using fiat directly.

I haven't sold bitcoins yet, but I would imagine that the reverse process would work nicely. Becoming a trader on Bittylicious is more about consistent sales rather than a one-off, small transaction.

I'm not sure about Mintpal, but BTC-E has a range of options to load cash onto the exchange, however VISA isn't available to deposit directly - perhaps through one of their financial transmission partners.

That depends what your intentions are.  Do you just want to buy and hold, do you intend to trade actively, or do you just want to buy a small amount for a single transaction?  Are you trying to be as anonymous as possible or do you care?  Generally I would say Coinbase is the most convenient option for people in the US and BTC-e is another good option, but BTC-e customer support can really suck if you don't speak Russian, where Coinbase has excellent support.  Here is a breakdown of basic Bitcoin exchange reviews for whatever use you desire.
