devaluation of a dollar can make it the truth

US$ inflates currently at 2-3% a year. It will take 50 years before $500 will buy only $50 worth of goods.

I saw a chart of the US dollar buying power earlier http://www.bannerjapan.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/decline-in-purchasing-power-of-dollar-since-1871.gif  I simply extended the line and find 2050 and 2060 the dollar would be worth nothing (~40 years). Your thoughts?
