CANADA

So i order 10 Antminers.

Now UPS is holding the packages because the customs are arguing that this is a for commercial use.
They want me to register for a commercial business import account (for taxes and legal obligations etc) and the bullshit goes on and goes on.

WHY THE HELL DOES BITMAIN:

-Mention BITCOIN everywhere on the package/slips/whatever
-Ships every miner in individual boxes (so they see how many units your order is vs 1 big box)
-Declares over the USD value (yay taxes)

Would it be that hard to ship in a single plain big brown box, mention computer hardware and declare its actual value... WOULD THAT BE HARD ?

The Canadian customs obviously received a memo on Bitcoin, they know exactly whats what.

....Which just means they did everything by the book. (minus the offering the "bitcoin" wording all over the box)

It does sound like you intend to use those machines for commercial applications...so now you have to bite the bullet.

For domestic and personal usage. No business or commercial use here buddy.

A business is an organization involved in the trade of goods, services, or both to consumers.

Also, i did not know declaring over the actual value was by the book.

They're considered computer parts if there is no PSU. Make sure they know that when you go to pay them.

As a Canadian all I can say is... you have to figure Revenue Canada and Customs is going to at some point stick their porky fingers in and try as much as possible to skim off more and more. I think the issue is more with the government entities rather than any fabricator. Eh and remember you can add details to the shipping so that you can avoid problems like this in future so that Customs knows the score. The alternative could be worse. They could hold it for weeks like they do in Indonesia and stomp on it a bit until you pay. Not sure which is worse the bureaucracy or the corruption.

Perhaps some gentle advice was provided by the carriers back to Bitmain to put a more accurate value on the consignments.

In Little ol' NZ, if you have a consignment worth over NZ$1000, you need to sign up as an importer so you can cough up the Duties, fees and taxes.  Also, by registering, you can pay the Duty etc before the consignment arrives, speeding things along their way.

My first pair of S1's I ordered in February came thorugh as US$49.95 each, no need to regsiter (GST only payable on goods+ Shipping over NZ$370)

My March shipment on 500 x Antminer U2's caused me to have to register.

The pair I'm waiting for delivery tomorrow came through as US$200 each.  Since I forgot to add my NZ Customs client code, the delivery that should have happened on Thursday is delayed by 6 days (4 business days),  oops.  Then again, I had to prove that I'd paid (0.804BTC / US$374 at the time), less than the declared total value (US$510) on the consignment.  And if you end up paying GST, it pays to have a decent consigment to make it worthwhile as you get charged NZ$100 just for the need to handle the paperwork...

Big thanks for the heads up. Not going to be ordering anymore from Bitmain. I liked paying UPS $52 per pair of S1 without any other hassles. I guess those days are over.

Still dont get why he went from declaring 120$ per S1 to 800$... Does he want to screw us with taxes?
For the record, two days ago I paid 440€ import taxes for my brand new S2... shit...

I personally am not a fan of their name in giant letters on the box.
I always prefer discrete packaging regardless if it's a power supply for cable modem
or my antminer. Dam thieves don't need anymore help in guessing boxes.
One persons commercial enterprise anothers hobby.

The New World Order thanks you for your support of Bitcoin and encourages your continuing support so that they may track your expenditures easier.

Seriously, it's a pain that bitmain is causing all these troubles. Maybe you can contact you government so they can make bitmain include a memo that says "Not for commercial use", I don't know why bitmain would go to such lengths to make sure customs marked this as commercial use.

It can't be blamed on manufacture for government's policy.

How much does the tax come out to be for this?

I have had no problems importing multiple Bitmain HW into Canada.  The worst I've had to deal with is calling UPS and stating it's for personal use and I would like them to clear it through customs for me.

Hmm really? They are ok but also the first from HK who put real or almost real value on their shipments.
It's still parts, not a finished functioning product.
