your laptop has an atom CPU, so that's why you video browsing is a problem.. the CPU is extremely weak. what do you really want to know though? you could just install an OEM version of windows 7 and it'll work - you can download that off a bit torrent, and it's not illegal since your laptop has a valid key.

Download Linux for free and I stall that. You can boot it from a cd or USB if you don't want to instal it and to test it out first, but like beetcoin said your computer is just probably old and it might not help much. Give Linux a go though.

It should be fine. Just give it a go booting from a USB/cd and see how it runs. Have you scanned the laptop for viruses? That could be slowing it down.

Nope, just boot it from the USB or cd and it'll be fine. You can boot as normal as long as you don't instal Ubuntu as that will wipe everything for you. If it works and runs fine I suggest you instal it though, but that's up to you.

That's not required. As I said above you can instal it from the USB/cd and it will wipe everything for you. It's quite a simple process. Just a few clicks really.

It probably doesn't matter. Just use the latest version you already have. If your computer is just old and running slow then it might not help, so best just to give it a go as you've got nothing to lose and see what happens.

Don't tinker with long-obsolete versions. 14.04 is the current ubuntu version, and you should use that or one of the derivative distributions such as xubuntu or lubuntu ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu) Onkel Paul

The make and model shouldn't matter about compatability. Just check the Ubuntu site for ram issues as it should tell you what minimum specs you need.

No, it doesn't require >1GB ram. It should run on your computer. Try it out and let us know.

i'm thinking your laptop is doomed to turtle-like speeds since you're running on an atom CPU.. so even if u have ubuntu, you probably won't be able to stream the higher res videos since it's a hardware limitation.
