Butterfly Labs Bitcoin Miner - 10 GH/s Processor, USB 2.0 - BF0010G $299
This comment found in the website follows my opinion:
Unfortunate as it is this is NOT going to get you a profit on bitcoin mining based on it's cost and current network difficulty. If you go with PPS method you will get to the break even point you will need 108,364,689 accepted shares at the time of this posting. You might get 200,000 in a full day. 541 days to break even not counting power costs.

That's one expensive noise cancelling machine for when you go to sleep. (10 gh is not that much hashing power)
[edit]: in response to Op (below me). That is correct. It is the fact that they are selling it to (which is why I linked this in my newest post as well).

Who knows. Maybe a bunch of people mining 0.0001 BTC will be sitting on $100 from that one day. If we truly believe BTC is going to the moon - then technically - these are a great deal for Walmart buyers. Fast forward 10 years where you hear a dude say: "Man they were selling those 10G miners at Walmart back in 2014 - i SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE!"

I agree with this, walmart might be the only way people can get miners. How long do you think before there is a mining section in walmart or never? I think with in 10 years.

Wow, that's awesome. I'm not super excited for a bunch of noobs to get fleeced buying crappy miners, but this would appear to be news of the bullish sort.

Pretty darned cool even if it is a financial disaster for the buyer.
I guess a disclaimer about setting your money on fire by buying this wouldn't be too savvy on their part.

This is like when I saw a fixed gear bike on sale at target.... once it has hit the masses you know that its played out. also Jalapeno is a great little box for folks who want to "Dabble", but you can get them off of ebay for way, way, WAY less than 300 bucks at this point.

For all of those people that keep worrying about ASICs making Bitcoin more centralized I have repeatedly told them that because of this you will at some point be able to go into a Walmart or Best Buy and buy your miner for $50 and be able to easily plug it in and start making money.
When any joe schmoe can go into Walmart and buy a miner that they just plug into their computer and give it an address to send their bitcoins, then there is no stopping the decentralization of it. Like going in and buying a Roku box to get better channels with little effort setting things up.

sure, but it seems to me that casual miners are like a drop in the bucket compared with the hashing power produced by big mining farms. and won't this trend continue? i'm not sure that the growth of casual miners is significant.

This is good to see, why?
If you're on their site and just type bitcoin in the search, it now returns something.
Honestly, it'l be great when they are physically STOCKED in-stores to purchase. That will be great!
When they have physical miners in their stores.. shit will get crazy.
