using R9 290X  - I 21 w 256 tc 32765 2 --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock
1500   

but when trying to launch bat client appears for a split second then vanishes -- what causes this?

What are all the settings in the bat file? Sounds like you are missing more settings.

The bat file is likely causing an error and closing.

Open a CMD window (shift + right click select option) from within the same folder as the bat file and type your-filename.bat
The bat file will run but will show the error without closing.
