Can anyone vouch for a good trading bot to use with Mt. Gox? Or be willing to code one for me for payment in BTC?

The best bot would be the one you write yourself. Because bot usually follows certain unique strategy

Agree. If a bot is making lots of money for someone, he/she wouldn't sell it to you unless for lots more money.

Has anyone seen these on the internets? The Mt. Gox API seems to make it rather easy to create one of these bots. I'm starting to get interested in creating one for myself now.

I think the important thing is to know some of the economics of trading, like arbitrage, otherwise you trades will only be as good as the algorithm you use. If you are a novice you might end up with a losing method.

Even if you are not a novice you might still end up with a losing method...

I think some of your options are:
a. Already have a trading strategy. Just need someone to code the basic functions to interact with mtgox and will code in the strategy part yourself. In that case, you will still need to code in the trading strategy and mtgox actually has a pretty good demo api written in php on their site that you can use for the basic functions. (See their api documentation and you'll find the sample codes.)
b. Already have a trading strategy and would like a programmer to code the whole thing so all you need to do is to plug in the black box. Then I think you're looking at paying quite a bit. What is to prevent the programmer from copying your winning strategy and plug in his/her own black box? I have heard one major trading house actually sued one of their former employees who tried to use their secret algo codes.
c. Don't have a strategy. Then I don't think you are going to get any 'programmer' to do it for you. Again, if the programmer comes up with a strategy that nets you $1,000 a month, how much would he/she charge for it? Notice the pie is only so big, so every bot is competition.
I think bots are everywhere: Stocks (IB), forex (fxcm), and you would think mtgox is crawling with bots looking at the market data.

I've got a bot ready, but to be honest, it doesn't perform well all the times... If the market moves up, it's fine , otherwise, you will lose money... So if you have any trading algo, let me know and I'll implement it for you. Just to show that I'm not talking shit: http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/2918/26546480.pnghttp://img825.imageshack.us/img825/1481/38428513.png

Subscribed... want to see what bots are legit. As long as they have adjustable parameters, people shouldn't be running the same strategies, right?

Yes, I concur. My intention is to use less than 10% of my holdings as trial.

To those who already have bots that they are using-- how are they doing during this recent slip in the BTC market?

You can't win if you don't play. But you can't play if you lose all your chips. First I found bitcoin (BTC). Then I found something better, Monero (XMR). See GetMonero.org

It's not that I don't trust the trading bots. It's just that I don't trust the trading bots.
What I've found is that often times defined formulas and calculations work better than my instincts/feelings/predictions. Base on profits, my code is probably smarter than I am as a trader. Would adding statistics help?
