I'm considering selling some silver for BTC but I'm wondering if anyone has a good chart or source for the current rate.
Thanks!

bitcoinwatch.com has the current rate for gold - don't know if that would help much? If it were me I'd simply use my favourite source for silver prices and my favourite source for bitcoin prices and do the conversion myself... I don't think there's (yet) a bitcoin/silver price source.

I'll chip in a free bumper sticker to the person who can put together a chart that shows the ongoing silver price as given by Kitco ( http://www.kitco.com/market/) vs. the current Mt. Gox rate. If this is something that is complicated to do maybe there should be a bounty? I think there could be an active market for BTC/Silver. Sticker shown here:

It looks to me like the "interesting" part would be Kitco: this is the closest I can find to MtGox's ticker. It contains the current spot price for silver, but would need to be parsed to determine which market (London, New York or Asia) is currently open. It's a plain-text file, not JSON or XML, and is designed to be human-readable more than computer-friendly. Looks like it would be do-able, but it's not something I could take on right now - sorry!

Well, if you want to sell your silver, let me know. We can use MT Gox rate for dollar conversion, then use Comdex for the dollar silver conversion ratio. c-rock

Hm, I just found this thread because I'm looking for a JSON API with the spot price of silver. I'm writing a Perl script to calculate the BTC/1ozAU exchange rate. Once I find said JSON API (or something roughly equivalent) I'll be able to kick out data that can feed a graph, or whatever.
... oh, and it would help if the ddosing of MtGox would stop, because that's where I'm getting the BTC price.

http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/ might be useful in the meantime for the Bitcoin side of things.

Well, here's what I have so far. https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1TrcBa6KoR8-HCY3ZiOjOzTsOI1j26XVm1H7sV-vDLvkThe ddos at MtGox kind of derailed me for a few hours, so the script isn't as far along as I had hoped. As it stands, the thing does this: 1. Polls bitcoincharts.com for the current weighted BTC price. 2. Prompst the user for a silver price. 3. Does math. 4. Outputs something like this: BTC= 3.3115 silver= 42
An ounce of silver is worth BTC 12.6830741355881. One bitcoin is equal to 0.0788452380952381 oz of silver.
I'll repost any changes to the link above as I go along. Right now it's starting to look like I'm going to have to use a regular expression to pluck the silver price from an HTML page.

Sorry to dig up an oldish thread, I was just wondering if there was any progress on this?
What I am looking for is a chart over the past 6mths or so that show the price of BTC against Silver, not a live chart, just historical.

Well tradeview is your best bet but their gox data does not go back very far. However the chat box has been bugging the mods to change that.
