How do I take a backup of my electrum wallet ?

I want it to be such that if my computer gets destroyed , I can have a copy stored on cloud storage.
But this would need to be such that it could be encrypted with a simple password.

Any ideas or guide links ?

As long as you have set up a password for your wallet it will be encrypted meaning that without the password no one will be able to spend the coins. Electrum already offers this in built, check the tabs at the top. From there you'd just upload the wallet file to your cloud service if choice and I would advise you run 2FA on it just in case (can't be too safe).

Easiest way is as follows:

- Run elecrum
- Go to file menu > save copy
- Give it a suitable name and save it some place convenient

Then just upload to your cloud storage.

IMO it's too risky to store a wallet on a cloud service, but you may feel otherwise.

Will it still have my normal password encryption ?

If you set a password first then the backup will be encrypted too. You can set a password from wallet menu > password.

You can also open your backup file and see for yourself whether it has the password or not. To open use file > open. Then right click on an address on the receive tab and select sign message. Try to sign a message and it will ask your for the password if the wallet is encrypted. You can also use this approach to confirm that you have correctly memorized the password.

I agree. This is what I do. I just write down the 12 words on a piece of paper and keep it save somewhere.

If you computer was ever destroyed. You only need to download and install Electrum. When you run Electrum for the first time, continue in wallet recovery mode and enter the 12 words. All your old addresses will be regenerated and good to go in minutes.

You can always store it in a safe or similar if you are worried about others physical access to it. Alternatively, you could store it on a USB stick in an encrypted container rather than simply writing it on a piece of paper. Just make sure you don't forget the password for the container.
