Hello boys and girls,

As a topic header clearly states I would really love to hear from you about the things in FCN you would change/introduce to make it more valuable/interesting for the masses.

Probably the most popular topic will be the pool.

MM coins are super dependent from their “parents” - at this moment all main coins are being mined _mostly_ on pools. (by regular folks with one-two PC’s at home) And since MM is not implemented in it - FCN struggles.

I know that you’re able to mine FCN like all other coins but then all MM features are going to hell.

Also, I know that MRO folks were agains the MM and they’ve declined the hard fork proposal from TFT, okay, they are the part of the main coins now but still not really supportive of MM. I would really like to hear their points about it since I missed the initial discussion.
Personally, I love the MM idea, yes - difficulty will rise in all networks and you won’t get so much of a profit from it but you will be more protected from the theoretical attacks on the network. Less dependent from big miners that currently control the difficulty and price of all CN coins.

In theory, FCN can be and should be the most difficult the coin to mine but along side with difficulty will come protection from the attacks - it will be the most safe CN coin.

Well, I guess that’s all I wanted to tell you folks. Smiley

Merged mining is FCNs main feature right now. What do we need to make it the most profitable coin to mine?
Im not a techie, but in my understanding the main issues are pools that support MM with FCN and competitors and a very timely update of the code base to keep up with the merged coins, right?

Maybe we can learn from Namecoin Huh

Yea, I thought so too but it looks like that merged mining itself was a BIG surprise addition to the Bitcoin and marketing wasn't needed.

I think we should re-introduce MM to the people. Last time it was discussed there was big BCN/MRO drama and people didn't actually learn anything.

Also, I actually wonder if pools are going to change the situation. People seem to be downed after the merged mining drama and think that it's bad but it, surely, isn't.

Best wishes to amphibian, and thank you for all that you've done! I know you'll still be involved on some level, and I look forward to your further contributions.

Best of luck to bitcoinbear. From your posts, you seem knowledgeable, so from that and from amphibian's confidence in you, I am completely fine with this transition.

As far as suggestions for the coin, please know that these are casual suggestions. I have not put a lot of research into these so I may be completely wrong, and if so, I welcome people's correction. These are just some of the requests that I've noticed from the thread:

  • Implement a pool. I know the main devs don't have to be the ones to do this. In fact, if anyone here has the time, resources, and knowledge to implement a FCN pool, my guess is that the devs would provide guidance and assistance.
  • While I personally don't care, it seems that many more people will use a coin if it has a GUI wallet (for PC and/or phone apps). A wallet without having to download the blockchain would be great for phones.
  • I know a logo contest is ongoing, and a good logo seems to be a necessity.
  • Maybe a slower emission curve so as to encourage the coin's long-term use
  • Maybe a longer block time (2-3 minutes) to discourage orphan blocks. For coins purposed for anonymity on a peer-to-peer network, it seems that >60s offers better chain efficiency.

I really haven't done a lot of research on the last 2 points so I could be way off. Just my 0.02.

Keep up the great work!

- If you could find some way to fix the proof of payment problem with CrypotNote that it's so hard to proof that you made a payment to someone via the blockchain, that would be a great improvement over the state of the art. So far, if I made a payment to you, I cannot proof to an outsider that I made the transaction from me to your address like with Bitcoin whereas pointing to the block explorer does the job. Some process for dispute mediation would be great.

- Boolberry has introduced an Alias-feature, where you can attach a name by your own choosing to an address, like "Spekulatius123" for my own address. Its a very useful feature and could greatly improve useability when users simply pay to unique aliases, foregoing use of those pesky numerical addresses completely. Unfortunately the way it is implemented in BBR is not very user friendly; you have to mine a block to create an alias, therefore reserving this feature to large miners and pools. If we want a frictionless user experience like with Skype, where you just choose your unique user name and are ready to go, this has to change, so that new users can instantly make use of it.

- We can leave the heavy development of user interfaces and new features to the better equiped teams of other coins and simply focus on becoming the coin of choice for single miners and pools. If we manage to MM big and small chains alike both target groups can be engaged (big pools for high diff coins like MRO and small miners for low diff chains like Duck and Mountcoin, etc.)

What was the drama all about? I kinda missed it.

Maybe you can contact some of the Namecoin people and get them interested in this project so they join our ranks. That would do wonders for pushing our legitimacy as well.

Maybe to be CNs first implementation with side chains would be nice, so we may have a side chain that is indeed traceble for proovable transactions, incase you need that. I realize its probably quite alot of effort but Im only just suggesting.

A decentralized exchange for hashpower (1) and mining contracts(2) would also plug in great into Fantomcoins concept.
(1) like GPUMAX, miners renting out the profits of their hash power to investors at a floating exchange
(2) basically the same thing, mining endeveours sell shares of their future profits

Thank you for the idea. Tried to fill out the application for it but there must be a logo.

I think I'll raise the reward for the logo to 0.5 BTC. There are a lot of good logo works atm but maybe 0.5 BTC reward will attract more artist (and people in general) to the FCN. I'll surely make announce later today.

Drama was about MRO not wanting to be a merged mining coin. (super short version)

About the Namecoin people - that's a valid idea. Probably going to look into people who were behind initial merged mining release - maybe they will be able to help or at least advice something. Smiley

Also, I'm working on a slogan or something like that for a FCN, so far the best I got was: "Merge with the future. Mine FCN."

I think a user friendly wallet is very important.  Currently I have to check, double check and triple check if I want to do a transfer - especially to the exchanges with payment ID. A graphical wallet can reduce errors substantially, where you can assign a new recipient address as well as payment IDs a name and then you can just select the names to do a payment. eg. in the amount block type the amount of coins and in the recipient address you select the name eg Bittrex and then you select the name Bittrex payment ID.

Proving a payment or identity with CN coins sort of against the principles of anonymous coins.  If it is possible, the recipient could have a "confirm" option which sends the originator some kind of proof that he got the money, but I don't think it is possible.

I actually think that's GUI wallet/miner are a little overrated. Yes it will bring more people to the coin but there is a chance (and not a small one) that all this people won't be as qualified as one would like. After all, community is always build around 3-4 leaders with a strong tech background and often forum online. I think we should focus on finding those - or becoming those.

Regarding the payment proving - I agree with you, I highly doubt that such functions are possible and if they were possible how would it effect anonymity.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Spekulatius version of slogan - I actually really like it. I was thinking that current version is too long and this one is just perfect. "Merge the future, mine FCN."

Thank you! Going to talk to amphibian about implementing it on website. Maybe instead of "1st merged mining cryptonote coin".

Was talking to bitcoinbear in PM he said I should post here to the ideas forum.
There was this open-source project called DarkMarket which allows for anonymous and decentralized trading of goods and services, with an escrow feature by which a trusted third part (based on voting system) would arbitrate disputes or approve transactions.
Since then the original developers all have moved on to other projects except for one of the original people.
The DarkMarket project has re-branded itself to OpenBazaar (twitter is @OpenBazaar ). http://www.coindesk.com/darkmarket-alternative-launches-friendlier-title-openbazaar/
I wonder could Fantomcoin or other reps from the CryptoNote community try to create a strategic partnership?
OpenBazaar has not launched yet, originally they were just going to use Bitcoin for transactions, and anonymize the transactions with DarkWallet (if I am not mistaken). http://www.wired.com/2014/04/dark-wallet/
One of the key elements to a coins success is its eventual adoption for actual trade of real goods and services, and merchant adoption.

OpenBazaar source appears to be all up on Git: https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar

Or alternatively, maybe the CryptoNote community could create their own decentralized marketplace where CryptoNote coins are the medium of exchange of choice?

that's a nice idea. cryptonote main feature is absolute anonymity - it sure suits to the OpenBazaar. even darkcoin dev talked about ring signatures and how is it the future of the anonymity. (if i recall correctly) i think bitcoinbear should look into it.

Auctions looks really good to me. I know they are not sure they will implement this but still. Auctions with FCN as a main currency would be really really cool.

Maybe amphibian could contribute in this project in some way.

Great news folks!

Today Minergate.com pool introduced merged mining option! You can mine FCN with any CryptoNote coin you want.

It's a first MM pool implementation there is and we're very grateful for it!
