Literally a day before the Apple news came out.  Should I just sell it and keep my iphone 5s?

Play with it and see how you like it.

It'll take a little time for bitcoin apps to show up on iOS again.

yeah I figured that it would take a while for them to show up, plus I guess the apps have been around on the other mobile os longer so could mean that they are more secure/stable?

There are a ton of them and some are very feature-rich. Just make sure you read some reviews before you download because there's a lot of garbage out there too.

I recommend Mycelium for a wallet.

You are better off with the Android anyway. It has slow interface but the Bitcoin apps are great, never had any problems. Enjoy sending bitcoins in 5 sec. I was blewn away the first time I used it. It's much faster to scan an image and hit send than paying with a debit card.

i know i'm bias and all, but you can never go wrong with leaving apple. fuck them.

off topic: not only are they nazis who want to control everything (and build business models where they trap you into their ecosystem and suck your wallet dry), they're also not nearly as user intuitive as people seem to think (at least in my opinion). like extracting files from your phone.. i don't know how to actually do it, especially since there's no micro SD slot.

It depends on your preference if you want to experiment with the Samsung why not that said if you have a 30 day return period and want to save some money returning the phone makes sense.

That said I am not an apple person so would say stick with Samsung but finances come into play so that bias says if you have a spare phone and don't need it return it pocket the money and use it on something else you can benefit from.

You're asking if you goofed by leaving a company that can (and have) refused whole classes of applications to run on their hardware at their whim, in favor of one where you can run whatever you damn well please?

No. Definitely not.

Apple or Android, you really need a clean standalone phone with nothing on it for bitcoin, preferably will not connect to internet unless needed. So the new Android phone will still be useful for you. Now you can choose to use iPhone as an everyday phone and Android for wallet, or the other way round.

No Bitcoiner with at least some self-respect should own any of the Apple products. Sell your Apple Iphone 5S and keep the Android with you. You will thank me for this advice, when Bitcoin exchange rates hit $10,000 and Apple closes down its Iphone production.

Apple has so many restrictions that android does not have - your phone experience will be much happier if you keep your android. There are many apps that are just better on android because there are none of these Apple restrictions. Same apps, but better. Like Pandora, Gyft, Kindle, Amazon, eBay, the list goes on.

The freedom of android is highly compelling.  Try it out for real.  It far and away has moreuseful features than iphone.  I have not regretted my switch.

If you like android, keep it, if not, then use iOS.

The real concern here is the security of the device you use. Ideally for any large number of bitcoins, use a non-internet connected device with nothing else on it.

But use a device that gets regular security updates if you are connecting to the internet. Check out how long,  how quickly, and how often the updates are released.

+1

Use as a real wallet. Nothing can be more unsafe than the iPhone right now, so people better not install Bitcoin wallets on them anyway. BTW, I guess soon every other app will scan for Bitcoin apps and their priv_keys, so best not to install anything on the one used for Bitcoin.

Only problem is that it has slow menus and all that.

I dumped apple because of bitcoin. Now I like my Android. I think the days of the iPhone being years ahead of the competition are over. My cheap droid basically does the same job for less.
