I think this is quite a realistic scenario - when will it happen?

By the year 2100. At that point a loaf of bread will cost around $100 trillion dollars. So that trillion dollars will be equal to a penny today. I expect a satoshi to be worth over a penny (today's value) within two decades.

In fact, I think there is a 50/50 chance that a single bitcoin will be worth over a million dollars by the year 2020. Mining would then be a $657 billion dollar operation (365*24*6*12.5* $1 million), which would still be less than the cost of running the old fiat empire after you factor in losses due to inflation.

We will have a great bitcoin jump in 2016 when bitcoin halves again, it will double its price at least to maintain mining operations

haha that would be crazy maybe in 200 years or longer.
I would be happy if 1 satoshi hits 0.50$-1.00$.
And you are going really far with this speculation.
And that would be really hard to pay with bitcoins then, because cant divide a satoshi.

WRONG: Yes you can divide satoshi. A small update in the client will make a trillionth of a satoshi possible. Division of bitcoin is just a clientside limitation.

One exception is the "satoshi" which is smallest denomination currently possible.

This is candidate for the silliest thread I have every read on here.  And I'm posting in this turd. BTC

Actually... one satoshi has like a 99.999999999% chance of becoming worth 1T.. the dollar is worth less every day.. it's followed that trend for over 100 years.. there is no reason to believe it will stop.  EVENTUALLY, 1 satoshi will be worth 1T unless the USD competely collapses before then.

OR unless Bitcoin's value plummets to zero before the USD (not saying it's likely to happen, but the possibility always exists)

haha yes after infinite time, if BTC SURVIVES ( a big if) then it should become worth a trillion per satoshi.  But of course, a trillion will only buy you a roll of TP.

If given the choice between a penny (more than a gram of copper before 1980, and about a gram of zinc and a bit of copper after 1980) and a single satoshi, I think I would rather have a castle made of all the pennies, than the satoshis.

I would still want to hold some BTC.

What that is indeed something new about bitcoin I learned today, Thanks man!
Well maybe one day in the future if the price of 1 satoshi is gettin to damn high Grin
We could always have 1 satoshi devided in to smaller satoshi's, that's sick.
Maybe this op is right, and 1 satoshi will be worth alot.

Hmm, a castle made of pennies. That would be interesting. Invite me over for dinner once you have one, I'd like too see how it looks.

If you want to make castle and you have only two choices either make it using Pennies or Satoshis ..! its obvious you'll choose Pennies because I can't imagine how one can build something physically tangible using satoshis ? sounds totally absurd.

true. The dollar loses 2% every year. At this time one satoshi is worth $0.0000065. To get 1 000 000 000 000 dollar this takes how many years? $0.0000065*1,02^x = 1 000 000 000 000.
-> 1997 years.

1 satoshi = all the gold in the earth, this is quite realistic in the future, lets say we discover more planets with tons of gold but we cant make more btcs

The US would need to have several decades of the economic leadership of the Obama administration for this to happen
