I was expecting a much more "amazing" article.
"Domain adds landing page and asks for your email"   ..... Amazing! 

How could they now follow through and really surprise us?

I'm pretty sure the domain name already sold to a company planning to use it.
It is possible they will do a tease/build mailing list/try to get "acquired" by another tech company.
