I'm having a cig, dog goes ballistic.

So I was able to scramble in the house quickly to get the camera.

Is this a peacock?

I live in indiana, if this is a peacock, I had no idea they are wild here. Maybe a turkey?

Yes, that's a peacock. An Indian peacock to be specific. They're notoriously bad at geography.

Yep it's a peacock:

The Indian peafowl was one of the many species originally described by Linnaeus in his work, Systema Naturae, in 1758 and it still bears its original name of Pavo cristatus. The Latin genus name Pavo and the Anglo-Saxon pawe (from which the word "peacock" is derived) are believed to be echoic in their origin and based on the usual call of the bird. The species name cristatus refers to the crest.

The earliest usage of the word in written English is from around 1300 and spelling variants include pecok, pekok, pecokk, peacocke, peocock, pyckock, poucock, pocok, pokok, pokokke, and poocok among others. The current spelling was established in the late 17th century. Chaucer (1343–1400) used the word to refer to a proud and ostentatious person in his simile "proud a pekok" in Troilus and Criseyde (Book I, line 210).

The Greek word for peacock was taos and was related to the Persian "tavus" (as in Takht-i-Tâvus for the famed Peacock Throne[5]). The Hebrew word tuki (plural tukkiyim) has been said to have been derived from the Tamil tokei but sometimes traced to the Egyptian tekh.

I wish i was that lucky to have peacock(male) in my yard .
Sometimes I find it hard to believe how beautiful these birds are with those huge, colorful feathers, looks like he's wearing an extravagant dress or something. Pretty cool.

What happened to the peacock? How did it get away from the dog? I'm guessing it flew away? Or are peacocks flightless birds?

So many questions...lol. I've never seen a peacock outside of the zoo. I think people make money selling their feathers online. I think some people make jewelry out of them and sell it on etsy.

I, too, used to live in Indiana - Jasper County. Yep, I remember my first encounter. She kicked like a son o' a bitch, but learned quickly that you gotta get 'em drunk first, pet 'em a lot, and say sweet things to 'em. They love that kinda shit.

But, that was decades ago. Lucky you for gettin' your first with many more to come, hopefully. BTW, never ever tell anyone you got 'em drunk, for PETA frowns on such.

By the pic, I see she's a beauty. Nice size, great color, and beautiful plumage.

How lucky are you guys to have peacocks and bison were you live! All I get in TN are either frogs, turtles (We have to quickly move them to a near by pond so they won't get hit), duck, geese, squirrel, and deer.  Roll Eyes Tip: When dealing with a turtle, know that it will troll you.
