Decided to take a shot at making an icon for anyone that wants to use it as a favicon or for your software. I made the icon using shapes so it can be expanded to great sizes without losing quality. I created all the sizes needed for an icon: 256, 128, 64, 32, and 16 pixels.

nice transparent backgrounds.  This is public domain, correct?

We need a good vector image of a btc symbol.

Beautiful.  the details are a little on the light side/hard to read unlike the current design.  fantastic effort though.

Yes, anyone can do what they want with it. You can take out the btc symbol vector and use it, I currently have it as a custom shape in photoshop.

I agree.  I think you're very good, but do it again better emphasizing the word, "bitcoin," and you've nailed it.

Made the icons much more readable, added a slight metallic texture, and made the smaller two icons higher quality.

Also, I think it would look better if you wrote BITCOIN twice; One sad mouth, one happy mouth.

sorry, didn't finish post.  those original logo coins are QUITE good.  i actually like the parts of the coin that make it stand out (darker) b/c of the higher contrast, like the edges.  a suggestion:  don't focus on trying to make your coins look like pure gold.  it makes the detailed parts of the coin like the print too light and less contrasty.  i don't know if that makes sense or is even correct.  its just my personal opinion.  the original coins look techy which is cool.
